What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Steel Technologies?
The Buyer is responsible for analyzing customer forecast/usage information. This role will review mill lead-times, mill capabilities, and mill pricing to develop and implement strategies of how and when to buy, ensuring customer requirements are satisfied.
How you can contribute to the team:
- Review Inventory Levels
- Thorough analysis of customer requirements and internal/external lead-times and maintain balanced inventory
- Review and drive resolution of slow-moving and obsolete inventory
- Develop and communicate strategies to ensure inventory is maintained
- Purchase Orders & Setup New Base Items
- Analyze customer forecast information and examine profit margin
- Review status of PO, finished goods and options
- Expedite orders based on activity and customer needs when necessary
- Consult with metallurgist regarding new items or grade requirements
- Internal & External Communication
- Coordinate with Sales department to develop strategies for adequately covering customer requirements
- Communicate lead-times and any delays in expected material arrival; provide coverage options to meet customer requirements
- Work with Operations to develop strategies for maximized yield and minimized scrap
Here’s what is needed to be successful:
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field with one year of purchasing/inventory/sales experience
• General knowledge and understanding of customer service and inventory management
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
• Ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, and manage difficult customer situations
• Able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
• Excellent organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Attention to detail is required
• Excellent data entry skills required
