Job Summary
Under the direction of the Facilities and Fleet Director, the Custodian is responsible for performing daily custodial and cleaning activities in assigned building(s) and as determined by assigned schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Vacuums all offices, hallways, rugs, and elevators in assigned building(s) where there is carpeting. Cleans stairways by vacuuming, sweeping and/or wet mopping all stairs and tiled areas in the building.
• Empties all wastebaskets and recycling bins in all areas of the building. Dusting offices, stairways and hallways.
• Cleans, disinfects and sanitizes all bathrooms and stocks supplies.
• Cleans all lunchrooms and coffee areas. Cleans and sweeps out garage areas.
• Cleans walls, ceilings, and windows by dusting, washing, and/or painting. Shampoos all carpets and cleans window blinds.
• Assures all work areas are cleaned, and all equipment, tools, and/or supplies are stored properly and safely.
• Informs the Building and Grounds Department Head of any supplies needed, building needs and/or problems noticed in the performance of the job.
• Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.

Essential Knowledge

• Knowledge of applicable custodial operations.
• Knowledge of operation of all cleaning equipment required in the performance of the job (e.g. scrubbers, vacuums, etc.).
• Knowledge of all safety precautions and risk management procedures and proper lifting mechanics.
• Knowledge of the application, use and proper storage of all chemicals used in the performance of the job.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and materials.

• Knowledge of floor and carpet care.

Essential Skills

• Carrying out assignments and cleaning routines under minimal supervision and direction.
• Following assigned cleaning schedules and assignments in accordance with department standards and requirements.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other custodial staff and internal customers (staff).
• Using tools, cleaning chemicals, and operating cleaning equipment (scrubbers, vacuums, extractors, etc.)
• Reading, understanding, and following safety procedures and written instructions.
• Using a variety of cleaning techniques utilizing appropriate chemicals and cleaning equipment.

• Applying and using cleaning supplies and chemicals in accordance with directions, safety instructions and precautions.

Working Conditions
Risk of exposure to communicable disease, blood borne pathogens, and other bodily fluids. Chemicals used in performance of the job pose potential risks for inhalation of fumes, chemical burns and skin absorption.
The work environment involves exposure to materials and situations that requires following safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment or safety procedures.

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of 1 year pervious custodial or cleaning experience
• Valid Driver’s License
• Pre-employment background check including finger printing
