The Role
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing all payable/payment activities and supporting the finance team in the monthly close process including identifying accruals and journal entries in support of that activity. Responsibilities also include bank account reconciliation and preparation of entries, preparation of reconciliation workpapers for closing workbook, organization of documents on SharePoint network, and audit support as needed. You will work closely with our financial management team and assist in timely delivery of accurate financial statements.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
To be successful, the Senior Accountant will do the following:
· Independently run the AP processes, end-to-end
· Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close and coordinate with finance team for accruals
· Oversee accounting daily operations by taking responsibility for accounts payable, check runs and remittance information, reconciliation of problem accounts, intercompany transactions, etc.
· Provide backup coverage for payroll processing and assist with review for accuracy/completeness.
· Coordinate audit and tax requests including preparation of supporting reports and documentation
· Develop, monitor, and report on accounting department KPIs and related goals to ensure pace of transaction entry and build efficiencies where possible
· Continuously identify and develop solutions for process improvement
· Adhere to proper for-profit accounting methods, policies, principles, rules, and regulations, including GAAP
· Assists the finance team with sales and income tax-related projects and year-end audit
· Identifies opportunities to improve processes and implements recommendations, as approved
· Supports the finance team with special projects
· Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline or equivalent work experience
· 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience with a portion of it being in a supervisory role.
· Experienced in U.S. GAAP and financial statements, including their interdependencies.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, expert preferred
· Experience with top-tier ERP software; Sage X3 or implementation experience is a plus
· Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization
· Knowledge of employee relationship building and performance management techniques
Preferred Qualifications
· Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting is a plus
· Able to thrive in a fast-paced setting
