What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1-1 Special Education Aide position at Stepping Stones, Inc.?
This position is responsible for providing one-on-one support for students attending our Step Up program throughout the day in all scheduled activities. This position is responsible for delivering direct instruction for academics, art, self-care, daily living, job, recreation and leisure, and self-regulation skills with the guidance of a teacher or Intervention Specialist.
Responsibilities:
- Providing vigilant supervision and support for an assigned student with Autism throughout the day in all scheduled activities.
- Delivering direct instruction for academic, self-care, daily living, recreation and leisure, and self-regulation skills with guidance of a teacher and/or special education intervention specialist.
- The student may demonstrate any or all of the following characteristics: deficits in social skills and communication skills, challenging behaviors, and/or sensory issues.
Ideal Candidate should possess:
- Strong work ethic.
- Highly developed communication skills.
- History of excellent attendance and punctuality.
- An understanding of Autism is beneficial, but not required.
- Exhibits patience during heightened behaviors and de-escalation competencies.
- Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs.
- Must have the ability to walk continuously for extended periods of time, indoors/outdoors as needed.
- Must have high school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with reliable vehicle and willingness to submit to a criminal background check is also required.
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:15am - 2:45pm
Skills:
- Special education expertise: Possess knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
- Working with students with autism: Experience in working with individuals on the autism spectrum and implementing strategies to support their learning and development
- Deaf education: Familiarity with teaching methods and accommodations for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Early childhood education: Understanding of early childhood development principles and ability to create engaging lessons for young learners
- Experience working with diverse student populations: Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of students from various backgrounds and abilities
- Classroom management: Strong classroom management skills to create a structured and supportive learning environment
- Effective communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders

Pay: $13.50 - $15.00 per hour
