The Lead R&D Engineering Technician provides technical leadership in large projects supporting testing, fixtures development & building/testing prototypes. Influences lab activities and acts as the technical expert in infection prevention product lines, primary lab safety contact and maintenance.
Duties
- Assemble, troubleshoot and test complex mechanical and electro-mechanical parts and sub-assemblies of capital equipment in an R&D New Product Development environment.
- Read and interpret Engineering drawings, hydraulic drawings, electrical schematics, sketches, written or verbal instructions and specifications.
- Work with variety of materials, technologies, and manufacturing methods like: Metals, plastics, rubber composites, wire harnesses, Plumbing, Pneumatics, hydraulics, seals, Electrical
- Use machine shop tools like End mills, drill press, band saw, etc. to build prototype parts or assemblies working independently or collaborating with engineers on engineering team.
- Setup and use calibration devices (like Heise gauge), electrical devices (like Ohm meters), pressure sensors, flow sensors and other measurement devices like data acquisition systems (like Deweysoft) to support testing and data collection.
- Build and/ or troubleshoot electrical wiring harnesses or assemble electrical control boxes.
- Work with various electrical (like power supplies, relays, fuses etc.), electro-mechanical sensors (like capacitive, inductive, optical etc.) and mechanical components (like valves, pumps, tubing, etc.)
- Collaborate with engineers and/ or other technicians in review and execution of test methods per test procedure and protocols.
- Lead/ Support configuration audits of test units, maintain lab notebooks and record findings and observations.
- Collaborate and support cross-functional teams like Controls, Software, Scientific, Service, Manufacturing etc. per project and business needs.
- Manage, Organize and Maintain R&D Lab area for parts inventory, assembly, tooling, and other engineering equipment.
- Maintain facility in a safe, clean, and orderly manner at all times in compliance with OSHA VPP standards.
- Work in a collaborative environment as a team player or individual contributor
- Support and assist manufacturing ramp up and design transfer during product development and production.
- Travel to customer or vendor sites as needed.
Required Experience
- Two-year Associate Degree or equivalent, apprenticeship or comparable specialized study in mechanical and/or electrical engineering, beyond high school level.
- 8 to 10 years experience in mechanical systems like Plumbing, pneumatics, hydraulics etc. and Electrical experience
- Ability to use 3D CAD software like Creo, E-Plan etc.
- Familiar with 3D printers and 3D printing.
- Ability to program and build PLC or similar controllers.
- Skilled in the set-up, operation and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical test equipment and measuring tools.
- Familiarity with Deweysoft, Labview, Adruino, PLC controllers
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as an integral part of a team and independently as necessary.
- Skilled in planning, organizing, and controlling assigned activities and group activities.
- Self-motivated
- Excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills.
- Travel to Customers and operations sites.
