What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Sterling Engineering?
The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented team player who will oversee the entire order process. You will review proposals, negotiate prices, select the best suppliers, analyze trends, follow up with placed orders, verify delivery, approve payment, and maintain necessary records.
Job Duties:
- Source a wide range of materials: This includes tubing, steel, fasteners, electrical components, replacement parts, machine tools, parts for resale, office supplies, equipment, printed materials, custom signs, and MRO supplies.
- Negotiate the best deals: You'll secure quotes and negotiate prices and terms with supplier guidance from the Purchasing Manager.
- Ensure accurate deliveries: Verify that received materials match the orders.
- Streamline production: Coordinate with various departments (Engineering, Sales, Production, and Stockroom) to ensure timely material deliveries to the shop floor.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels: You'll continuously monitor all purchased materials and control inventory levels for each item.
Qualifications:
- Proven purchasing experience: A minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing environment, covering the entire purchasing cycle from planning to inventory control, is required.
- Skilled negotiator: You possess strong negotiation skills and a keen business sense.
- Bachelor's degree required: A Bachelor's degree is essential. APICS certification is a plus.
- Experience with MRP systems a benefit: Prior experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems is preferred.
