Job Description:
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer (Power Systems) to join our team in New York, NY. In this role, you will provide a wide range of engineering expertise to our fleet of power generating facilities. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in power generation or manufacturing with a focus on heavy electrical equipment or controls. You will be responsible for interacting with all facilities in our fleet, providing technical support for electrical issues, overseeing NERC compliance, supporting regional ISO requests (PJM, NEISO, and NYISO), and contributing to development projects. Excellent communication skills and a strong background in field engineering, troubleshooting, and project management are required. This position will involve collaboration with all levels of the organization, from the Corporate C level to plant staff and regulatory agencies. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Plant Performance.
Role and Responsibilities:
Provide subject matter expertise on High Voltage Electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, controls, relays, and transmission equipment.
Offer engineering support in response to NEISO, NYISO, and PJM requests for technical information.
Oversee NERC compliance for all facilities and manage the O&M service provider for day-to-day NERC compliance.
Support Solar and Battery Energy Storage Development activities, particularly in terms of electrical interconnections.
Prepare project analysis, budgets, schedules, and plans.
Prepare, implement, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing engineering deliverables for projects and major equipment procurement.
Develop equipment and construction specifications.
Analyze bids and recommend equipment and/or constructor selection.
Work closely with site colleagues to investigate and conduct root cause analysis of underperforming plant areas or systems and identify mitigation options.
Support day-to-day operational activities, outage work, new projects, and programs as required.
Familiarity with state and federal safety, regulatory compliance requirements, and construction codes.
Support construction and equipment testing and commissioning.
Coordinate and provide technical assistance for SCADA, substation/plant physical, and control projects to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems.
Required travel to sites as necessary to support various activities (~5%).
Qualifications:
5-10 years of experience in power generation or manufacturing with heavy electrical equipment.
Familiarity with failure modes and non-destructive testing methods of power plant materials and systems.
Knowledge of power plant auxiliary power distribution systems and electrical materials.
Proficient understanding of utility grid systems.
Knowledge of protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and plant and substation equipment.
Understanding of relaying one-lines and control schematics.
Experience with electrical, protection, and control design schematics, SCADA systems, including station communications and automation design.
Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI.
Experience with medium and high voltage equipment such as transformers, switchgear, breakers, power cables, generators, motors, MCC's, power panels, and buss-work.
Experience in designing overhead and underground medium and high voltage distribution/transmission cables, re-conductoring, and asset replacement transmission projects in urban environments.
Strong team player with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Proficiency in computer and internet usage, including Windows-based software programs.
Engineering degree preferred but not required.
Experience with regional RTO's (NYISO, PJM, NEISO) is a plus.
Experience with NERC standards is preferred but not required.
