Summary:
The Assistant Director, Advancement Events& Donor Relations is responsible for assisting Advancement staff, under the direction of the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving & Alumni Relations, with the stewardship of major, leadership, and scholarship donors. The Assistant Director also will be primarily responsible for planning and executing donor stewardship events including the Scholarship Luncheon and the President's Reception. In addition, the Assistant Director will support the annual giving and alumni relations programs through the planning of events, the development of marketing collateral and communications, the expansion of young alumni and student philanthropy programs, the management of volunteers, and coordination of crowdsourcing campaigns.

Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree plus 2-3 years of experience with event management, communications, and fundraising/non-profit work or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
  • Knowledge of philanthropy and/or non-profit work
  • Experience planning and executing large scale and/or specialty events
  • Experience developing marketing collateral and executing design projects
  • Ability to prioritize across multiple deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Creative and innovative
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Knowledge of donor relations database navigation
  • Experience managing social media accounts and developing digital content
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed



Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting standing, walking; talking; hearing; keyboarding and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity to review data in both print and electronic form. Frequent typing using a keyboard. Climbing stairs, walking between campus buildings. Subject to inside environmental conditions.

Essential Functions:
Advancement Events
  • Plan and execute Advancement events on an annual basis (i.e Presidents Reception, Homecoming Family Week, Scholarship Luncheon, Milestone Reunion, etc.).
  • Plan and execute specialty events as needed (dedications, ribbon cuttings, etc.).




Scholarship and Donor Relations
  • Coordinate with various offices across campus in the awarding of donor funded scholarships ensuring that procedures are followed and that the selected recipients meet the donor criteria and gift intent.
  • Work with scholarship recipients annually to create thank you letters and send to donors along with student photos. Include Endowment updates where appropriate.
  • Work with gift officers to write and edit scholarship and endowment agreements (Memorandum of Understanding) for new annual and endowed funds.

Annual Giving and Alumni Relations
  • Work with the Assistant Vice President of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations to develop and carry out annual giving and alumni relations plans including the development of direct mail and email projects.
  • Assist with physical and electronic communications such as recurring publications, email campaigns, social media, university web content, and various external web-based platforms (i.e. crowdfunding, event registration, graphic design, etc.).
  • Expand efforts surrounding student philanthropy and young alumni giving.
  • Design marketing collateral and develop content for special projects.
  • Work with the Assistant Vice President of Annual Giving & Alumni Relations to ensure the support and success of volunteer groups (i.e. Alumni Association Board)
  • Recruit alumni volunteers to assist academic departments and affinity groups and manage communication across various departments of the university (i.e. mentorship, advisory boards, etc.).
  • Assist the Assistant Vice President of Annual Giving & Alumni Relations in other duties as needed.
