This position is a temporary, full-time summer student internship working 40 hours a week (estimated dates May 2024 - August 2024).

Position Highlights:

Stewart's structural practice extends across North and South Carolina and the southeast working on great projects across the region. We are one unified practice organized into teams. If you are interested in the field of Structural Engineering and are looking to gain valuable experience and growth opportunities that will help catapult your career after graduation, this position may be the perfect fit for you! As a Student Intern in Structural Engineering you will have exposure to actual design projects in an interdisciplinary firm. By working within our structural engineering practice, you will understand how our discipline works hand-in-hand with architecture, civil engineering, and landscape architecture. You will work side-by-side with our professional structural engineers and BIM technicians on a variety of project types, ranging from simple to high-profile and complex public and private projects.

Position Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be part of a world-class structural engineering team, bringing high-quality engineering to life for our amazing clients. This position will expose you to most aspects of structural engineering, including design and analysis of building components of foundation and framing systems. You will perform design and drafting on projects using your skills in design and modeling software. Your excellent communication skills will be put to good use, as you will be coordinating and collaborating with a variety of professionals.

Position Qualifications:

  • Completed Sophomore year or higher in an ABET accredited civil engineering, structural engineering, or architectural engineering degree program.
  • Basic knowledge of structural engineering principals and standards.
  • Knowledge of Revit, Bluebeam, and/or Abode PDF software preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in the structural engineering industry and a valid driver's license are a plus.
  • Belief that Trust, Humility, Respect, Excellence, Accountability, and Discipline are important values to embrace and live out
  • Commitment to diversity of thought, contributing new ideas and perspectives while also respecting different points of view.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for an employment-based visa.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to work in a professional, climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels and exposure to lots of light, both natural and artificial. Workstations are in an open space layout with frequent collaboration and interactions from co-workers throughout the day. Within the office you are willing and able to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/scanner, and computer printer. You are willing and able to make site visits on construction sites, accompanied by our staff, which includes walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, or riding in a mechanical lift.

Our Team:

Stewart was founded as a Structural Engineering firm by Willy Stewart and has grown to be one of the biggest and best structural firm in the Carolinas (not that we're biased, or anything). That strength and experience allows us to work on the biggest and best projects utilizing all building materials. We have an energetic and diverse staff with engineers and technicians from all over the world joining our group. Our exceptionally talented staff work in a collaborative environment which spans across the whole company and all practice areas.
