Position: Director of Business Development | Firmwide

Accountable to: Chief Executive Office

Responsible for: Responsible for approach, implementation, oversight, and management of STG Design’s business development goals in existing geographies and market sectors, as well as strategic solutions for expansion into new areas when appropriate. Preference for deep knowledge and relationships in at least one market sector.

Requirements: Proven track record in developing new business, competitive advantage solutions, thought leadership information, teaming with internal & external partners, brand expansion and networking.

Strong network spanning multiple geographies across the US.

Ability to identify growth opportunities, develop supporting documentation, and provide recommendations for pursuit/expansion, experience in market assessment, insights, contacts, and PR strategies.

Responsibilities: Further existing business development approaches and sales strategies that increase STG Design’s project awards and aligns with overall strategic business goals.

Nurture key relationships, further strategic partnerships, collaborate with doer/seller colleagues in maintaining and building new key client relationships.

Further STG Design’s reputation as leaders in design excellence, as consultant advisors, as thought leaders and expand brand awareness for STG Design in national markets.

People: Provide leadership, and act as a coach and mentor.

Leadership

  • Collaborate with leadership in analyzing, establishing, and executing a focused business plan annually.
  • Partner with STG Design leaders in each geography to drive collaboration on pursuits across market sectors.
  • Inspire, motivate, and work with Doer/Seller teams to be accountable for the delivery of innovative client proposals and presentations relative to winning work.
  • Identify opportunities for industry and community outreach that may also benefit business development goals.
  • Mentor employees in business development related best practices, communications, and networking to enable them to reach their individual potential. Take action to maintain a positive team environment, (lead by example).
  • Provide staff members with an “open door policy” to allow individuals to feel free to communicate with you.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Schedule time at each office to enforce firm-wide role and have meaningful and productive time with all employees and local office leadership.

Management

  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of business development pursuits, with respect to leadership, STG Design Brand, business metrics, and financial operations.
  • Oversee, track, and maintain business development related memberships, subscriptions, dues, networking, and panel events, in conjunction with Finance.
  • Provide thought leadership from a business development perspective related to white paper topics, press, and PR.

Business Development: Focus business development efforts on increased revenue opportunities for the firm.

  • Help build a portfolio of strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Market and develop new business on a consistent basis. Place strong emphasis on marketing for STG Design to win new projects and increase STG Design’s visibility in the communities in which we are located.
  • Ensure prompt and timely responses from appropriate parties to all proposal requests.
  • Work closely with Marketing to maximize effectiveness of lead generation efforts, collateral material, project marketing and proposals, including updating resumes, case studies, and project sheets.
  • Help build and improve external firm image by active participation in appropriate organizations and maintaining significant contacts with current and potential clients – locally and nationally.
  • Know the portfolio of the geographic office and the firmwide portfolio of market sectors.
  • For proposals, coordinate the setting of fees, schedules, team and contract reviews with the proposed project leads.
  • Prepare interview teams to best represent the process of aligning our approach to the client’s needs.
