What can you expect? At a seasonal Tower Technician II, you must be highly skilled in tower erection and perform general construction duties as part of the STG construction crew in extreme Alaskan conditions. Your prior experience in working in Alaska’s rural construction industry is preferred. This position is tailored towards Tower Erection and Microwave Installation but also includes civil and grounding work. STG focuses on new site builds and microwave maintenance. How will I do it? You thrive on long hours, day after day, often in adverse conditions, to complete the project at hand, which affords you the opportunity to travel, spend time with family and pursue interests during the off season or in between projects. Your good at following directives from the Project Foreman, and you have a sense of duty to take initiative and always remain productive at work while on the jobsite. Climbing to heights of up to 300 feet daily in rural arctic environments does not scare you. You will work on general construction of tower sites to include site layout, excavation, foundations, erection, installation, and maintenance/repair. You will install microwave antennas, systems, and all associated components. Your attention to detail will be needed for alignment and cross-polarization of existing and newly installed antennas. You enjoy the challenge of installing all hardware related to telecommunications tower and equipment and performing grounding, weatherproofing, and testing. You are skilled at working with a diverse selection cable types, connectors, and antennas. You never compromise safety when performing tower rigging and crane signaling. Working closely with a variety of other trades is not an issue for you. Your experience in the application of versatile construction skill sets will assist other trades to meet project needs. Your attention to detail will be needed for the submittal of all necessary paperwork to Project Management and Accounting in a timely manner. Adhering to and performing duties pursuant to the company wide safety plan is important to you. Your sense of responsibility is to report any incident, situation or activity that may affect the company’s ability to operate safely, ethically and profitably. You enjoy mentoring less experienced laborers. You don’t mind doing some camp/field cooking and cleaning as necessary. You take pride in maintaining any required certifications mandatory by law or company policy. Your co-workers see you as a “team-player” who is respectful and supportive. You have extensive knowledge of climbing gear, rigging, roping, knot tying, and you’re proficient with hand and power tools. Your experienced with safely utilizing electronic test equipment and other specialized tools in performance of your duties. You never compromise safety by using harnesses, belts, ropes, and any other required protective equipment and gear required to meet all duties of position. Your organizational skills will identify resources, establish priorities, meeting deadlines and general time management will elevate your performance. You can read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
