Safety Inspector / Permit Writer

We are currently recruiting for a Safety Inspector / Permit Writer to join our team.

What you will do
He or She will function independently in a dynamic role working in an ISO 9001 Certified facility. The ideal candidate must have a broad knowledge in general and construction safety working with the petrochemical area.

Key Duties & Responsibilities 
•   Provide direct support and facilitate both an operations and nested Contractor workforce in all aspects of Occupational Health & Safety.  Attend pre-job and planning meetings.       
•   Maintain Terminal PPE inventory & order replacements when surplus is diminished.    
•   Daily field issuance of Safe Work, Hot Work, Excavation, and both Non Permit and Permit Required Confined Space Entry Permits to Facility and Contractor workforces.  Maintain PTW station.    
•   Perform and have full understanding of lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) and ability to interpret P&ID drawings.
•   Perform calibration of MSA CGI’s for facility air monitoring and use in issuing of Hot Work Permits.  Understand aboveground storage tank ventilation techniques per API 2000 and NFPA 30.  
•   Perform color metric testing with use of Drager instrumentation and understand use of personal passive dosimeter testing.
•   Perform and document bi-weekly OSHA 1910 and 1926 field safety audits on facility and contractor projects.  Document non-conformances accordingly using the QMS System.
•   Advise facility staff and contractor staff on safe limits and use of PPE using SDS’s, NIOSH Guide, Mansdorf Guide, CAMEO, WISER, etc.  Full understanding of permeation factors and limitations of PPE.
•   Perform scheduled inspections on assigned safety/fire/ERT equipment (i.e. fire extinguishers, hoses, monitors, foam systems, SCBA’s, safety/eyewash stations, oil spill equipment, etc.).  Ability to operate powered industrial truck to move and refill breathing air cascade systems.    
•   Keep current the employee SDS location and PSI folder accordingly.      

Qualifications
•   High School diploma is required. 
•   COSS or technical safety training is preferred.  Position not intended for CFPS, ASP, CIH or CSP.       
•   40 Hour HazWoper will be required.  
•   OSHA 30 Hour preferred. 
•   Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in the Refining or Petro Chemical workplaces or equivalent.      
•   Experience in the application / issuance of the permit to work system is preferred.  Qualified Permit Writer (QPW)           
•   Working knowledge or experience in construction safety.  
•   Good MS office skills particularly in Excel, Word, and Power Point.  Good organizational skills.       
•   Ability to function independently at times.  
•   Good public speaking and leadership skills.  Will conduct safety meetings.
