Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Patient Access Representatives are responsible for completing varied, diverse and specialized duties to support the Revenue Cycle, Compliance and Patient Experience by accurately and efficiently completing tasks in the areas of Registration, Financial Screening and Verification and Patient Throughput.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care and effectively respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence.
The Patient Access Quality Assurance Data Coordinator & Analyst is a key member of the Patient Access Services team, reporting to the Patient Access Sr. Manager for QA and Training. Performs quality financial analytics to evaluate revenue cycle integrity; compiling data from various source systems to produce reporting on key performance indicators. Supports QA activities for all intra-facility transfers. Manages electronic registration QA systems. Performs other QA tasks to ensure accurate registration and patient identification standards are maintained.
Duties of a Patient Access Quality Assurance Data Coordinator & Analyst may include the following, but are not limited to;
- Responsible for quality and finance-based analytics to support revenue cycle, financial goals and compliance; actively measures the knowledge, development and effectiveness of departmental training for Patient Access Services department for Stony Brook Medicine under the direction of the Senior Manager QA/Training. Produces data in various formats, including, charts, and graphs etc., summarizing data findings. Serve as a reliable resource for department statistics maintained on share drive and SharePoint.
- Prepares reports that serve to identify training opportunities for departmental divisions and individual staff. Identify and corrects workflow deficiencies as required based on data assessment. Supports departmental QA activities. Supports and meets data needs for development and implementation of strategic initiatives. Ability to collect data from variety of applications and databases to construct meaningful reporting.
- As Administrator of registration QA system, responsible for rule additions and updates that measure registration integrity and accuracy. Analyzes department performance against defined quality metrics, reports trend and KPI benchmark variances. Make recommendations for workflow and procedural modifications based on financial performance and data analysis.
- Assess and validate Stony Brook Medicine (SBM), Stony Brook Southampton and Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) for patient transfers to ensure compliance and consistency in workflow processes and protocols on a daily basis. Ensure that admit source, admit/discharge dates, insurance plans, discharge disposition and other registration details are chosen and documented correctly to support excellence in billing.
- Actively engaged in duplicate MRN review processes, with strict adherence to patient identification standards and compliance with policies/procedures which ensure patient safety.
- Addresses inquiries from inter-departmental stakeholders to ensure accurate registration information to support CDI, risk assessment, SPARCs, compliance and regulatory reporting integrity. Employs efficient time management strategies to organize and prioritize departmental tasks and those received from various stakeholders throughout the organization.
- Must be capable of demonstrating intermediates skills in Microsoft Excel, including data pivoting, use of formulas, data extraction, and trend analysis.
- Ability to work independently to complete daily assignments and respond to inter-departmental inquiries.
- May be assigned as a Disaster/Emergency Service Worker, as required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of hospital revenue cycle experience and/or financial / data analytics experience.
- In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an Associate’s degree with 5 years of Patient Access/Revenue Cycle experience, with data analytics proficiency.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access.
- Demonstrated experience in generating meaning reporting from statistical analysis and data collection.
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication, computing and multi-tasking skills. Candidate must demonstrate experience and expertise in speaking with interdisciplinary stakeholders, department leadership and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree, with 3 years of hospital revenue cycle experience in Front End, Patient Access related functions.
- Experience in writing professional reports and preparing statistical data/trend analysis presentations and action plans.
- Ability to manage system implementation/enhancement quality reviews.
