Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Real Estate Bridge Loan Underwriter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of real estate finance, underwriting principles, and credit analysis. They will play a critical role in evaluating and underwriting bridge loan opportunities within the private credit real estate sector.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deal Evaluation: Assess and analyze potential bridge loan opportunities in the private credit real estate market. This includes reviewing borrower credit and experience profiles, property characteristics, appraisals, financial statements, and market conditions.
2. Underwriting: Conduct thorough financial analysis and due diligence to determine the creditworthiness of potential borrowers. Evaluate loan structures, terms, and risks to ensure alignment with company objectives and risk tolerance.
3. Risk Assessment: Identify and mitigate risks associated with bridge loan transactions, including market risk, credit risk, and operational risk. Develop strategies to manage and minimize risk exposure while maximizing returns.
4. Collaboration: Work closely with internal members, including loan originators, portfolio managers, legal counsel, and senior management, to assess deal viability and structure optimal financing solutions. Collaborate with external parties, such as mortgage brokers, appraisers, surveyors, and legal advisors, to facilitate the underwriting and closing process.
5. Documentation: Prepare comprehensive underwriting memos, credit proposals, and investment presentations outlining the rationale behind proposed transactions. Ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
6. Monitoring: Monitor the performance of existing bridge loan investments and proactively identify potential issues or concerns. Conduct periodic reviews and assessments to assess credit quality and compliance with loan covenants.
7. Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, market developments, and regulatory changes affecting the private credit real estate sector. Utilize market insights to inform underwriting decisions and identify new business opportunities.
8. Relationship Management: Cultivate strong relationships with borrowers, brokers, and other industry participants to enhance deal execution capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, real estate, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in real estate finance, credit underwriting, or investment analysis, preferably within the private credit or commercial real estate sector.
- Strong understanding of real estate fundamentals, including property valuation methodologies, market dynamics, and lease structures.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, cash flow analysis, and risk assessment techniques.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and identify key drivers of credit risk.
- Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate underwriting recommendations and investment thesis to internal and external stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and precision in underwriting documentation and analysis.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software applications.
