What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Governance Associate position at Strata?

How you’ll make an impact:
The Data Governance Associate will work inside Strata’s Information Technology group and assist with development, implementation, and oversight of data management strategies, standards, practices, processes and technologies. This position works collaboratively to ensure Strata complies with industry regulations, client requirements, and best practices. This position is considered a subject matter expert at certifications and regulations such as state privacy laws and requirements, HIPAA, Cloud Security Alliance, ISO27001, ISO22301, HITRUST, and/or SSAE.

  • Focus on improvement of regulatory, legal and best practice requirements for information and technology governance
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to ensure that policies and processes involving sensitive data meet established controls and stakeholder requirements
  • Participate in strategic planning efforts to build data governance controls into requirements for new products/offerings/processes/tooling
  • Create clear reports/dashboards on governance status for reporting to the executive committee
  • Review existing processes, identify areas involving higher risk regarding governance for escalation to the Risk team for evaluation and tracking
  • Participate in governance, risk, and compliance activities including but not limited to: RFP responses, document management and updates
  • Lead semi-annual data mapping refresh efforts, validate that all appropriate processes and assets are identified and aligned with governance requirements
  • Assist with maintenance activities necessary to maintain HITRUST certification, ISO 27001 certification, and SOC reports
  • Participate in vendor/service review and management procedures, aligning with governance requirements
  • Assist in remediation of issues and findings by recording corrective and preventative action plans and assisting with cross team project management with guidance from the Manager of GRC
  • Participate in review and updates for all security and technical documentation including but not limited to: Strata security policy, procedure documentation, network/security diagrams, position papers/memos, and guides
  • Respond to client security questionnaires, review BAAs/applicable contracts, and assist with client security calls

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience with a concentration in IT Governance
  • Experience implementing data governance practices in an mid-sized organization, preferably in the healthcare space
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate technical issues to users with little technical background/expertise
  • CGEIT, CRISC, CDPSE certifications preferred, but not required
  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical ability
  • Passion for working with people in collaborative efforts to drive real, effective change
  • Experience in policy and procedure creation and maintenance
  • Mastered knowledge in:
    • Microsoft office suite
    • Technical writing
    • Internal/External auditing
