What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Cost Accountant position at Strato, Inc.?
The Senior Manufacturing Cost Accountant is responsible for managing and maintaining the cost accounting system and developing an understanding of the cost/profit drivers as it relates to the various products. This role will work cross-functionally to ensure a proper understanding of the product level costs. This is a high visibility role that will support a better internal understanding as to the true factors that will drive profit maximization.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the CEO
Responsibilities:
- Establish and control reporting for item level costing, including material, direct labor, tariff, freight, and overhead allocation per item and work with business unit leaders to understand these factors impacts on costs/margins
- Perform routine analysis of major factors impacting product costs (material, freight, etc) while helping to find opportunities for improvement
- Develop and maintain Business Unit level allocations and work with business unit leaders to help educate the internal team as to the true factors impacting BU profitability
- Support monthly forecasting process around customer and product level margin forecasting
- Collaborate with sales department to ensure pricing is incorporating correct costing assumptions
- Preparation and analysis of customer and product level margin analysis
- Lead physical inventory counts to ensure the accuracy of inventory records.
- Assist in the compilation and creation of monthly financial reports for senior management as required.
- Assist in the maintenance of policies and procedures for all cost accounting and inventory transactions; recommend changes in inventory levels when appropriate.
- Participate in month-end, quarter-end and year-end close process and the yearly external audit review process.
- Develop and expand a comprehensive understanding of Strato’s ERP system (Infor) processes related to cost and revenue.

Education, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or equivalent working experience.
- 10 years’ experience in the cost accounting field or an equivalent role.
- Proficiency in accounting software and well acquainted with General Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Exceptional ability to think critically and make decisions based on data analysis.
- Superior knowledge of financial reporting software and ERP software, with a preference for experience with Infor Syteline
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in discussing financial reports with company stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Collaboration and teamwork.
Work Location: Monmouth Junction, NJ or Saginaw, TX.
