What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician Trainee position at Straus Family Creamery?
JOB OBJECTIVE: The ideal Maintenance Technician Trainee will function for an extended period of time in an apprenticeship capacity - learning to perform essential functions of a maintenance technician in a supervised setting. The trainee will be expected to gain practical experience by shadowing veteran Straus technicians on assigned project based work and daily duties, including but not limited to completion of preventative maintenance tasks, new projects, and/or repairs on buildings, production equipment, material handling equipment, boiler, fresh water and waste water systems, septic tank systems, and company vehicles.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Prepare and maintain production machines and supporting equipment running production efficiently
• Test boiler and water softeners, verify blow-downs, and check safety cut-outs
• Handle various welding projects - stainless, sanitary, steel
• May handle assembling PVC, ABS, and copper piping
• Troubleshoot plant equipment problems (electrical, mechanical and pneumatic)
• Troubleshoot plant refrigeration equipment
• Service plant lighting
• Operate forklift and other rental equipment including but not limited to: scissor lift, boom lift, backhoe, concrete saw, etc.
• Handle furnace, fresh air, air compressor, and fresh water filter replacement as scheduled
• Calibrate temperature probes and chart recorders to maintain compliance with state regulations
• Light grounds keeping (i.e., weed abatement, tree trimming)
• Must comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and any/all established processes , whether established by their manager, by the company or by law
• Must work in a safe manner and comply with all health, safety, security and emergency requirements that are communicated to you, whether established by their manager, by the company or by law
• Must communicate any safety hazard and report any workplace accidents to a member of management
• Must comply with all Company policies communicated to you through your Employee Manual, trainings, notice boards or other postings, or by a member of management
• Must participate in weekly team meetings, biweekly huddles, safety meetings and other Company meetings as requested
• Must ensure work is produced in the most sustainable manner
• Must maintain excellent attendance and work ethic
• Flexibility to work different shifts when required, to be on call after hours, and to work weekends to support operation of a 24/7 facility
• Bilingual, English Spanish, preferred
• Ability to perform with a high level of professionalism
• Must be self-motivated
40 hours Full Time, 24/7 facility
Physical Requirement:
• Ability to working in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to withstand intermittent periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and stooping, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers. – Repetitive at times
• The senses of being able to see, hear and have full power of speech are required
• The ability to climb and balance is essential
• Ability to work at high elevations (i.e., rooftops, tops of tanks)
• Ability to work in confined spaces
• Ability to withstand temperatures ranging from -10° to 100° Fahrenheit
• Ability to work in cold, wet, humid environments and or high allergen environments
• Ability to withstand noise produced by manufacturing and warehouse machinery up to 90 decibels
• Ability to lift, hold and/or carry 55 pounds, unassisted
• Ability to work on a computer and look at a computer screen for frequent periods of time
