What are the responsibilities and job description for the NC Programmer position at STRUCTURAL STEEL?
SS&PF is a locally owned business founded in 1976 and located North Salt Lake, Utah. Our plant consists of 18 acres and includes 100,000 square feet of production area. With more than 100 teammates, we fabricate both simple and complex projects for the western US industrial market.
SS&PF needs a competent NC Programmer who can:
- Import, organize, and validate DXF, CAD, NC1 files for both parts and assemblies prior to purchasing and production.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to process jobs and provide all needed instructions for shop personnel.
- Program and design parts for cutting equipment
- Troubleshoot technical problems with programs, systems, and integrated equipment
- Coordinate with the Shop management and provide resources needed to complete projects on schedule
- Modify customer provided drawings (where required)
- Create sketches or details for complicated parts and assemblies
- Perform other duties as required by management/ownership
Requirements
Education:
- A.S., AAS in Engineering Design, Building Design, Mechanical Design (Currently enrolled or Graduated)
Skills:
- Essential
- AutoCAD
- 3D modeling software (Solidworks, Inventor, Tekla Structures)
- Microsoft Excel
- Steel Detailing (or Classes in Steel Detailing)
- Preferred
- Plate Layout
- Data organization
- ERP software
- Additive Manufacturing (not necessary, but these skills transfer well to our process)
- Microsoft Access
- Project Organization
- Descriptive Geometry

Compensation & Hours
Hourly | $33.65 per hour | $70K (based on experience and qualifications)
- Hiring bonus of Benefits
- 401K savings plan with discretionary company profit sharing (5-year historical average for profit sharing contributions is 3%)
- University of Utah Healthcare Insurance Plan, with SS&PF paying 70% and employee paying 30% of premiums
- Dental and vision insurance are both available, but not provided
- Vacation will be three weeks, or fifteen business days. During the first year of employment this vacation is to be used at no more than eight days in the first six months
- Every other Friday off
- A week: 4 x 9-hour shifts Monday through Thursday
- B week: 4 x 9-hour shifts Monday through Thursday
- 1 x 8-hour shift on Friday
