What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Health and Safety Operations position at Stryten Energy?
Overview
Executes Health and Safety (H&S) programs and activities in partnership with the Plant Health and Safety staff. This position reports to the EVP, Operations.
Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility for implementation of Stryten Energy H&S standards ensuring compliance with all applicable legal requirements (e.g., OSHA), including all associated policies, procedures, and tools required for proper implementation.
- Work closely with the operations and EHS Compliance team to ensure H&S compliance programs are followed at all Stryten facilities
- Establish tools to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, audits, DOT, DHS, etc.
- Communications to sites, to ensure the tracking and implementation of H&S regulatory-required reporting and recordkeeping requirements, including accident reporting, medical monitoring programs; and, assist with obtaining information related to workers compensation cases;
- Support sites regarding proper industrial hygiene sampling protocol and monitoring requirements to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA (or other applicable H&S) regulations;
- Responsible for communicating to operational leaders regarding programs supporting H&S compliance requirements. Partner with Operations leaders to ensure receipt of proper instruction and understanding of legal requirements to implement corporate requirements;
- Provide processes and training to operational leadership and site personnel to meet all regulatory-required H&S training requirements;
- Review facility H&S process and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations;
- Conduct H&S mock reviews in partnership with Plant Managers and Operations Directors of the corresponding business unit, H&S Policy Compliance or audits of plant performance to ensure compliance with Stryten Energy program requirements and applicable H&S regulations;
- Develop and manage H&S operations projects and remedial activities, as required to ensure focus on safety;
- Stay abreast of new or emerging H&S regulations, and ensure Stryten Energy's standards are updated to reflect changes to regulations;
- Maintain effective relationship with plant managers, H&S personnel, and corporate management;
- Supervise and manage work of outside H&S consultants, vendors and service providers as needed;
- Development of Divisional Health and Safety-related goals
- Development of Health and Safety-related strategic initiatives in concert with the Director of Safety Compliance to ensure continuous improvement and goal achievement.
- Direct involvement in capital planning process to ensure that improvement opportunities identified in Stryten Energy’s Risk Assessment Process are properly funded
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Occupational Safety, Business, Engineering or relevant discipline preferred;
- 8 years of experience with Health and Safety regulatory compliance in the manufacturing industry (or consultation of industry). Ability to translate regulatory knowledge into policies and procedures;
- Subject matter expert on H&S rules and regulations applicable to Stryten Energy's (or similar) operations, including, but not limited to OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910- General Industry standards);
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and persuasively with all levels of the organization to influence change;
- Ability to analyze and develop reports regarding site H&S regulatory compliance;
- Expertise in applying safety knowledge, data analysis and facilitation skills to develop solutions to variety of problems;
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, outside agencies and the general public; and,
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including a respirator, and move throughout a manufacturing facility in the performance of work responsibilities.
- Willingness to travel to Stryten Energy facilities in the US, approximately 25% of the time (up to 50%).
