POSITION: Administrative Assistant I

EMPLOYER:  Student Choice High School Surprise Campus

SUPERVISOR:        Primary-Principal; Secondary-Director of Student Information

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: $25,000-30,000 DOE annual salary plus performance pay; Full Time - 12 Months/225 work days (Work Calendar A)

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Performance pay ($3,000) is awarded dependent on successful completion of established goals. Full Time employees receive benefits including participation in ASRS (Arizona State Retirement System), medical and dental coverage, as well as a monthly $250 employer-paid contribution to an HSA account.   For positions outside Maricopa County, travel and overnight stay will be required for participation in district-level, onsite professional development, training, and meetings at designated locations within the Greater Phoenix area. Compensation will be provided for travel, food, and lodging. 

JOB SUMMARY:  The role of the Administrative Assistant I at Student Choice High School serves alongside leadership and staff as a champion for students needing wrap-around services and an alternative pathway to their high school diploma.  This is a dynamic individual that understands alternative education and who strongly advocates for under-privileged and under-served youth and young adults. Utilizing the National Alternative Education Association’s Exemplary Practices as the standard for excellence, the Administrative Assistant I promotes and enhances the overall mission, vision, and culture of the organization; engages in professional development and program evaluation with all stakeholders to foster continuous improvement; adheres to all policies and procedures benefiting the success of the organization and all stakeholders; performs tasks in the development and continuous implementation of a high school program, which promotes the educational well-being of each student in the school.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.) 

  • Provides customer service by greeting guests, responding to requests for information from parents, students, staff, and/or the general public; and communicates district policies and procedures. 
  • Educated about Student Choice High School (SCHS) in order to share accurate information with all stakeholders.
  • Contact prospective students for enrollment.
  • Manages student enrollment and student records
  • Works closely with the Administrative Assistant II to ensure district processes and/or systems are accomplished accurately and effectively.
  • Oversees and executes a variety of routine clerical duties, including: filing, faxing, making copies, answering and transferring phone calls, and/or, performing other related activities. 
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. 


SKILLS (position requirements at entry):
Providing customer service; Operating a computer and related software applications; Filing; Keyboarding; 
Operating modern office equipment; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Minimum

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • One-year general office or basic customer service experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

Desirable:

  • Bilingual - Spanish and English
     

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Must have or be able to obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. 

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work
