Student Organized Services, Inc. contracts private chefs at Stanford University to serve 28 “Row Houses” spread throughout campus which employ private chefs operating residential kitchens, usually buffet-style. We are constantly accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of chef. Student Organized Services Inc. requires employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID19, health exemptions are allowed.
These jobs entail cooking lunch and dinner for approximately 38-60 students Monday through Friday. These are sought-after jobs and require of the chef maturity, culinary skills with a versatile menu, and consistency of quality. Work is offered approximately 33 weeks out of the year, from mid September (start Sept 18) to mid-June with nice vacation perks. We offer health (Kaiser Silver), dental (Beam Dental PPO ), and 401(k) benefit options. Each kitchen team consists of a chef and chef assistant/“hasher”.
We are seeking chef applicants who can:
1) Prepare healthy and delicious menus of great variety in batch
2) Ordering and receiving of supplies and sundry items within given budget
3) Self manage with assistant
4) Work fast and in a timely manner - menus require variety (main entree, vegetarian/vegan alternative, attention to allergens, side dishes, starch, dessert)
5) Able to lift 60 pounds
6) Clean and sanitize kitchen and work areas
7) Network with residents and other chefs for menu planning and seasonality
Big plusses:
1) Bake fresh breads
2) Prepare most foods from scratch
3) Prepare desserts from scratch
Assistants must:
1) Be able to lift 60 pounds
2) Demonstrate decent knife skills
3) Dishwash, stock, prep food, prepare salad bar, fruit trays, etc.
4) Clean And Sanitize “house” dining room, kitchen, dining areas, and kitchen storerooms
Applicants should have a working knowledge in a variety of culinary themes, as the student clientele expects a healthy variety.
