What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Bus Router position at Student Transportation of America, Inc.?
With direction from the Terminal Manager this full-time hourly position will manage a school transportation software suite and ensure daily routing updates needed for public and private schools in Bastrop to efficiently and cost-effectively manage day-to-day transportation needs from stop locations to time spent on a bus to route, while effectively communicating to all levels of operations, school district, parents and providing daily updates to operations leads, as well as weekly updates to customers.
Specific Job Duties
· Develop, implement and maintain routing with computerized software
· Transfer geographical data, prepare maps, programs, and related graphical media.
· Develop optimization strategies using various GPS programs designed to ensure our customers are serviced in a highly effective and efficient manner.
· Perform dispatch responsibilities while the terminal is operating bus routes and charters.
· Provide routing process improvement recommendations to your Supervisor/Manager: Recommend specific changes to help increase productivity and efficiency; Create, edit, correct, and delete routes as well as Observe and track route timing, as well as provide customer route updates and billing information to finance department.
· Communicate with schools, parents, drivers and aides; Answers telephone inquiries and communicate on two-way radio providing instruction to drivers.
· Assist with scheduling when needed to ensure all vehicles are staffed for the day .
· Read and follow established School District contracts.
· Report concerns, violations or issues to the Terminal Manager.
· Keep records and submit reports as required or requested.
· Perform tasks within the dispatch office to communicate and direct drivers throughout their a.m., p.m., or charter routes.
· Be on-call for emergencies and weekends as needed.
· Participate in any company required training, or as assigned by manager.
· Must be willing to obtain their CDL B license with the P/S endorsements.
· Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

- Familiarity with routing software a plus.
