The Study at Johns Hopkins is currently seeking a Hotel Controller to manage the property's day-to day-accounting functions and provide the General Manager and Corporate Office with accurate, and relevant financial data to ensure the smooth operation of the property. This position is responsible for the administration of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general cashiering, income auditing and general ledger functions.

Responsibilities
- Manages the day-to-day aspects of the property’s Accounting Department, including, but not limited to: AR, AP, month end reporting, cash flow projections, annual budget preparations, and overseeing all activities relating to the financial aspects of the hotel and restaurant.
- Implements procedures and systems as directed by Study Hotel’s corporate office and enforces policies, procedures, and brand standards.
- Reviews and reports on the hotel and restaurant’s positions in areas of income, expense, and earnings, based on past, present, and future operations and validates completeness and accuracy to the General Manager and Study Hotel’s corporate office.
- Ensures the accurate and timely payment for all vendors, including fees relating to federal, state, and local taxes, licenses, permits and regulatory contracts.
- Works with department leads to proactively assist with purchase orders, cost control, revenue enhancement possibilities, and monthly reporting requirements.
- Works alongside the General Manager in creating the annual budget. Manages the processes, facilitates meetings, and gathers feedback from department leads.
- Acts as the property’s “check and balance” in all financial aspects. Reviews all revenue adjustments, paid out vouchers, and complimentary guest amenities. Scrutinizes orders, invoices, and checks for reasonableness and proper authorization.
- Co-ordinates with the Information Technology team to ensure effective systems in place to streamline processes and reduce cost to process payable transactions.
Fundamentals
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years in a similar role within the hospitality industry, with a proven advancement record and currently employed in a management position.
- Skilled in the use of advanced, moderately complex, Property Management, Point of Sale, Accounting, and Time & Attendance Systems.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of Accounting practices and procedures including the Uniform Systems of Accounts for the Hotel Industry.
- Proficient with US, State, and Local tax regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills including follow up, time management, ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments, external vendors, and guests.
