**This position falls within the jurisdiction of the Suffolk County Department of Civil Service. When the Suffolk County Civil service examination is held for this title, the provisional employee must take the examination, pass it and be reachable for appointment from the resultant eligible list in order to be retained.***
An employee in this role will perform para-professional work, assisting medical providers with conducting medical examinations of patients in an outpatient Opioid Treatment Programs. Work includes; performing various preliminary medical screenings, tests, and clerical duties. Employees will also ensure compliance with established safety and health procedures during phlebotomy operations.
Typical work activities include but are not limited to;
· Interviewing clients to obtain medical history and record information in charts
· Taking blood pressure and pulse, testing urine specimens, drawing blood samples and checking height, weight and vision to prepare client for complete physical examination by providers;
· Setting up examining rooms and tables;
· Sterilizing and cleaning equipment;
· Making appointments, maintaining records and preparing correspondence and reports.
Applicant must have a working knowledge of medical office policies and procedures, preferably in an OASAS Clinic setting. Candidate must have the ability to safely draw intravenous blood. Candidate must also have the ability to deal effectively with clients in a courteous and tactful manner. In addition, candidate must have the ability to maintain records and prepare reports; and follow oral and written instructions. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in a position which involved assisting with medical treatment or in the examination of patients, which included the performance of intravenous blood drawing.
Note: Either satisfactory completion of a Medical Assistant Program from a State licensed school; or a school or program accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; or, a State or regionally accredited College or University may be substituted for the one (1) year of required experience.
Suffolk County residency is required.
