Sugar Bowl Summer Camps represent a very natural fit for our SBSTA mission to provide high-quality educational opportunities and adventures to young people in the Sugar Bowl community, and the region, while expanding our already deep partnership with Sugar Bowl Resort...year-round. SBSTA Summer Camp Staff will explore new initiatives, further develop our team of educators and coaches, and tie our winter programming in more directly with the summer months and vice-versa. We already offer year-round programming for our full-time Academy student-athletes, and on-snow summer camps, and this will now extend to our younger ski team participants and others via these summer programs. Summer Camp also provides leadership opportunities for a variety of counselors/coaches, including younger counselors, SBSTA student athletes, and counselors-in-training.
Position Overview: In alignment with SBSTA’s mission, core values, vision, and strategic plan, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting with the implementation of their camp age group. This is a perfect opportunity for those interested in spending their summer working with children in a structured outdoor environment. To be considered for employment for summer 2022, applicants must commit to our full camp schedule, July 6 - July 29, 2022 and be available for mandatory training and orientation and wrap up duties the week after. Applicants must be 18 years of age. Consideration will be given to applicants with current lifeguard certification and CPR/First Aid certification.
The SBSTA Summer Camp opportunities include Head Counselors, Staff Counselors and Counselors-in-Training (CIT). Salaries range from $16-19/hour DOE.
Estimate of Hours: This is a seasonal position.
Week of July 6, 2022 - 24 hours
Weeks of July 11, 18, and 25 (camp in session) - 50 hours/week
Week of August 1 - 4 hours - Debrief
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with the Summer Camp Staff to provide supervision, support, and encouragement to children, ages 4 - 12.
- Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Implementing camp programs for children.
- Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
- Organizes various small and large group activities including procuring supplies; utilizing necessary equipment and gear, and helping manage all gear and equipment.
- Ensures the cleanliness of all camp locations and facilities.
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Mediates any campers’ disputes.
- Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing your charges’ whereabouts at all times.
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool/body of water areas and water safety plans.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Education and experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field
- Lifeguard certification, if applicable. (First Aid, CPR certification)
As a condition of employment all employees must pass a State of California fingerprinting background check via Livescan and complete a Safesport Training course.
Employment requirements for the 2022 summer season include proof of full Covid-19 vaccination prior to the first in-person day. (Fully vaccinated is two weeks after your second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.)
