Position Summary:
Manage day-to-day QA functions and assist R&D activities when required.
Essential Job Functions:
· Execute QA programs to ensure products are produced according to specifications.
· Execute regulatory programs including HACCP and SSOP for USDA and FDA operations.
· Participate in passing annual 3rdparty food safety audit and customer required audits.
· Investigate customer complaints and work with management team to implement corrective/preventive actions.
· Work with plant management team to improve food safety, manufacturing processes and product quality.
· Develop and maintain specification for raw materials, manufacturing processes, finished products.
· Conduct employee training in food safety and quality procedures.
· Perform incoming material inspection and manage inspection record. Record and evaluate vendor performance.
· Hold and Release ingredients, packaging materials and finished products as needed.
· Conduct facility audits and pre-op inspections as needed.
· Assist QA technicians when needed.
· Maintain updated label file.
· Participate in R& D activities as directed by Quality Assurance Supervisor/Manager.
· Back up QA Supervisor in his/her absence.
Position Requirements:
· Attention to detail and hands-on.
· At least 3 years QA experience with progressive role in USDA regulated plant.
· Strong analytical skill and problem-solving abilities.

Additional Responsibilities:
Aside from the specific areas identified herein, performs practical hands on work and other related duties as required or assigned. In the absence of the Quality Assurance Specialist/lead, QA Supervisor will assume all duties.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a food-related discipline, such as food science, biology microbiology, chemistry, or food industry management.
Must be a self-starter who can accomplish results in an ambiguous environment with little or no direction along with the ability to make rapid decisions to drive business results and a minimum of 1-year supervisory experience.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
· Knowledge of Inspection and Quality Control methods, techniques, and equipment.
· HACCP training is required.
· PCQI training, experience in GFSI Standards is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Work is normally performed on the production floor, occasional work in the warehouse/production environment (with temperature as low as 0-degree F). Noise level in the production area may require the use of hearing protection. Requires standing for long periods of time, walking, climbing stairs, frequent lifting of material up to 50 pounds and frequent twisting, turning, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
Other:
Need to be flexible. Schedule does vary at times based on volume and production. Must be available to work early morning, mid-shifts, evenings, or weekends.
