Required
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance, or a related business major with 18 hours or more of accounting coursework. Five years of experience in a managerial accounting position with an emphasis on fund accounting or experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.

Preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).

Primary Responsibilities
Nature & Purpose of Position: Completes all monthly reconciliations and ensures general ledger and subsidiary ledgers are in balance. Completes general accounting entries including those needed in the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS). Assists with grant accounting and supports the finance department and business services of the University including Alpine and Rio Grande College. Reports to and provides support to the Controller.

Primary Responsibilities: Perform advanced, professional accounting functions directly related to the integrity of the university’s financial reporting; ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and other authoritative guidelines as it applies to governmental accounting; coordinate the interaction between the university’s accounting system (Banner) and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS); coordinate deadline driven assignments; cross-train and provide backup and support to other team members; evaluate existing written procedures as well as identify and propose new written procedures to increase efficiency or reach compliance; review and aid in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements; prepare account reconciliations, journal entries, and various ad-hoc reports; perform advanced on-demand analysis supported by narratives outlining courses of action and conclusions.
Other Specifications: Performs complex accounting work to include recording, examining, and analyzing of financial records, documents or reports. Prepares and inputs general accounting entries, including journal vouchers and budget transfers into the accounting system and entries into USAS. Reconciles payroll clearing accounts including investigating and resolving discrepancies on a monthly basis. Assists in the preparation of the Annual Financial Report, including the fixed assets schedules and entry into the Comptroller’s capital assets module, CANNS. Assists with gathering information and preparing various other financial reports. In all assignments, assures compliance with accounting standards, and University and System policies and procedures. Review and analyze general ledger accounts for integrity as well as compliance with applicable principles, standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Support month-end and annual fiscal close by performing allocations and preparing journal entries and financial statements; prepare a variety of statutorily required reports. Analyzing and reporting for departments; prepare spreadsheets and graphs to facilitate interpretation of data. Conduct internal and external training. Other duties as assigned.

This position is Security Sensitive. Remote options will be considered.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Noncampus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.

Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers. Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Big Bend National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are all within one to three hours driving distance from Alpine.
The SRSU campuses in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College. RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students. All RGC students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferrable work.
