SUMMARY
The After School Assistant is responsible for supporting the After-School Coordinator in maintaining a student-centered safe and orderly learning environment for students in the after-school program. The Assistant will work with the After School Coordinator to offer high quality, engaging enrichment activities for children in the program and ensure student needs are met.
This is a part-time, 25 hour per week, non-exempt position which requires a flexible schedule that includes evenings and occasional weekends.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides academic support to students, facilitating and assists children with enrichment activities.
- Demonstrates a belief in the value and potential of every student, by meeting the student where they are, and working with each student to develop his/her skills to help each student to excel.
- Monitor students in the after school program; assure student understanding of program rules and procedures; maintain appropriate order and student conduct.
- Helps to maintain a clean and organized environment for students; demonstrate and involve students in cleaning and organizing the program activities areas before, during, and after use.
- Follows proper student check in and dismissal procedure.
- Assists in the coordination and the distribution of afternoon snacks.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with children, parents, co-workers, volunteers and other Sulzbacher staff with the ability to problem solve, and resolve conflicts in a firm, friendly, courteous and professional manner.
- Assists, at times, with front desk clerical duties (recording attendance, answering phones, greeting parents, distributing information)
- Maintains bulletin boards
- All other duties as assigned
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or higher education credential.
- Previous experience as a daycare assistant or summer camp counselor preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- DCF 45 hour training (required within first year if they don’t currently have it)
- CPR and First Aid Certified (required within 90 days if not up to date)
- Actively supervising children

- Must be able to work with a diverse population
- Must be able to multi-task
- Able to work with limited resources to find creative and practical solutions
- Must have valid Florida Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- If driving a company vehicle on work-related business, must be 21 years of age and will require an acceptable annual Motor Vehicle Record check
- Must be able to lift at least twenty pounds
- Must be able to pass a DCF Child Care Level II Background Screening
