Summary:
Performs clerical duties to support individuals within the nursing unit. Contributes to the organized functioning of the nursing division. Assists in the nursing division’s cost efficiency efforts. Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Formal Education Required:
a. High School graduate or equivalent.
b. Proven ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instructions, and perform basic mathematical functions
Experience & Training Required:
a. Past clerical experience preferred
b. Completion of Summa’s orientation and Summa’s certification for the role
c. Attain American Heart Association basic life support certification during initial training period and maintain certification thereafter
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Must be able to type 35 words per minute.
b. Must maintain confidentiality
c. Must be able to endure incredible pressure
d. Must display problem-solving skills, priority setting with organizational skills, and be able to skillfully handle several situations at one time.
e. Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills preferred.
f. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
g. Ability to work well within a team environment: by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback; by supporting team goals and encouraging other team members; and by collaborating with patient care members to consolidate work, solve problems, create new methods and/or reduce costs

c. Exposure to blood and body fluids and sharps; risks to falls, strains, contagious diseases, etc.
