Barista

Summer Moon Coffee is in search of a dynamic individual to be a barista at our North Abilene location. Summer Moon is best known for our Oak Roasted Coffee and unique sweet cream called Moon Milk. Our drinks and customer experience are different from any other coffee shop you've ever visited! At Summer Moon, we seek individuals who are outgoing, personable, hardworking, and trustworthy. We would prefer the candidate to have barista experience, but we will provide thorough training on how to create our hand-crafted drinks.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU APPLY:

• This location is currently being built and is set to open in July of 2022

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and serve specialty coffee, other beverages and food items to customers
• Provide outstanding customer service, making each customer feel welcome
• Correctly customize orders as requested
• Accurately describe menu items to customers
• Process customer payments using the proper buttons, including discounts and upcharges when applicable
• Serve prepared foods and baked goods
• Ensure that stations are properly stocked with paper products and beverage preparation items
• Clean and sanitize all equipment, utensils, dishes and work areas
• Clean and sanitize service and seating areas
• Ensure proper functioning of freezers, refrigerators, and food warmers by routinely checking temperatures
• Stock retail products; ensure that merchandise displays look how they should
• May help with counting inventory as directed
• Assist with receiving orders and getting them put away properly
• Ensure that their assigned tasks according to the checklist are done at the end of each shift
• Show up to all scheduled shifts in uniform and on time

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Able to have a positive and outgoing attitude at work
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to follow all safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices
• Ability to multitask
• Good memory to recall faces, names, and preferences of regular customers
• Ability to serve customers quickly, efficiently, and kindly

Education/Experience:

• Must successfully complete training in food preparation, food service skills, and customer service procedures
• Must earn a valid food handlers certificate within 14 days from the date of your first shift

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be available to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays
• Must be able to work on your feet for the duration of your shift

Compensation for Barista:

• $8-$10 per hour base pay plus tips (which historically are an additional $7 - $10 per hour)
