Summary:
The Microbiologist I executes general laboratory activities including membrane filtration, dilutions, and monitoring of cleanrooms and utilities. The Microbiologist I will partner with experienced members of the QC Microbiology team to develop their aseptic technique and build a foundation for strong technical performance.
Essential Duties:
Performs environmental monitoring functions such as surface bioburden, airborne bioburden, and airborne particle monitoring, as well as monitoring of purified water and utilities
Identifies technical or system issues and brings them to the appropriate personnel for resolution
Ensures the lab is maintained and fully supplied with routine materials needed for testing
Performs general microscopy and plate enumeration
Executes a variety of basic microbiological testing as assigned (i.e. membrane filtration, dilutions, basic staining, growth promotion testing, plate enumeration, morphological assessment)
Demonstrates basic aseptic technique
Thoroughly documents all activities and reviews all paperwork to ensure accuracy prior to submission for peer review
Performs a variety of laboratory support activities and assists other lab personnel as assigned
Actively learns new microbiological techniques, procedures, and instrument use
Strictly adheres to all applicable written Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical guidance documents
Actively participates in lab meetings
Maintains an orderly and safe working environment
Strictly adheres to all cGMP rules and regulations
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Perform basic laboratory and aseptic techniques with supervision
Develop an understanding of cGMP requirements
Understand and adhere to company SOPs and requirements
Possess basic critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Possess good mathematical skills
Attention to detail
Ability to analyze, interpret, and follow standard operating procedures
Goal-oriented mindset, with basic time management and organizational skills
Capable of adjusting priorities in response to changing conditions and schedule
BA/BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or related field
0-2 years GMP laboratory experience
Fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Good verbal & written communication skills
Positive attitude and the ability to work in a team environment
Qualified to work with controlled substances
Fundamental background in Aseptic Technique, Environmental and Utilities Monitoring
