What are the responsibilities and job description for the POST Certified - Detective position at Summit County, CO?
A Detective assumes the responsibility for coordinating the tasks of Deputies on a crime scene as well as throughout the investigation in coordination with the Detective Sergeant or a Patrol Sergeant. A Detective is responsible for responding to crime scenes, conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations, providing feedback to Deputies on preliminary investigations and having an exemplary knowledge of the Colorado Revised Statutes and rules of criminal procedure. Detectives are also responsible for conducting interviews and interrogations, preparing and completing the required extensive investigative reports, preparing/executing search and arrest warrants and preparing/executing operational plans. Detectives will take part in proactive investigations, inter-agency operations, directed enforcement activities, undercover operations, surveillance operations, and other high/low risk events needing strategic or tactical planning. Detectives must have the capability to acquire, participate in, and coordinate task force operations and/or inter-agency investigations with local, State, and Federal partners, apprehend suspects, and prepare cases for a successful prosecution and testifying in court. Detectives will also often act as Court or District Attorney Liaison.
Candidates should have exemplary written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to independently manage their time, casework, and daily activities. Candidates will be able to brief their supervisors in calm or emotionally elevated states of their investigations, caseload, and assigned projects. Candidates will have the flexibility to work varied hours and shifts dependent on their investigations. Candidates should have a superb knowledge of Summit County as a community, a history of strong job knowledge with an emphasis on attention to detail, a positive attitude, proven peer leadership and demonstrated ability to succeed in a team environment. The work of a Detective may be performed in plain clothes, uniform attire or tactical attire dependent upon assignment.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be 21 years of age. Colorado POST certified with three years of law enforcement experience. Candidate cannot be on any probationary period and not currently involved in any disciplinary action. Valid Colorado Driver's License at time of appointment and throughout employment. Ability to speak and write in English proficiently, bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Must be able to pass a background check, psychological examination, polygraph examination and obtain a security clearance for work with Criminal Justice Records.
