School Wellness Clinician
Job Summary
Summit Pointe is the community mental health service program (“CMHSP”) for the county of Calhoun (Michigan). As a CMHSP, Summit Pointe provides supports and services to its customers addressing a wide-variety of behavioral, developmental, and mental health challenges, including, for example, psychological and clinical counseling, substance-use-disorder treatment and counseling, crisis intervention, case management, autism services, and many others. School Wellness Clinicians provide outpatient therapy for adolescents and/or families within the school setting. Goals of the School Wellness Program are to increase a youth’s access to therapy and build collaborative partnerships within school districts to better impact the emotional, behavioral and academic outcomes of students.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Completes psychosocial assessments inclusive of a diagnosis, case conceptualization, level of care assessment, and recommendations for treatment.
- Evaluates the needs and goals of each student and completes a person-centered treatment plan.
- Utilizes evidenced based treatments within their scope of practice.
- Coordinates appropriate referrals to other youth oriented programs such as Outpatient, Home-Based, MST, Wraparound, and/or Youth Peer Support Services.
- Performs outreach prevention activities within the community.
- In partnership with school personnel the School Wellness Clinician acts as “school liaison” for students with system partners such as juvenile probation, DHHS, etc.
- Completes individual or group therapeutic interventions within a school setting inclusive of crisis services as needed.
- May conduct educational presentations.
- Maintains record compliance according to agency guidelines and standards as well as funding source regulations.
- Shall ensure compliance and participation with competency improvement activities including, but not limited to credentialing, continuing education (per licensure requirements or minimum of 24 hours per year of clinically based trainings), implementation of evidence based practices, peer review attendance, and professional improvement practices.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational / Licensing Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field with Certification in the State of Michigan as a Licensed Master's Level Social Worker (LMSW) or Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) preferred; Limited Licensed Master's Level Social Worker (LLMSW) or Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) requires supervision by a fully licensed professional within their discipline.
Basic Qualifications
- Two years of experience in a behavioral health care setting utilizing evidence based practices.
- Must meet criteria for Child Mental Health Professional as defined by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services provider qualifications.
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
- One (1) year of computer experience – Word, Excel and electronic medical record software preferred
- Not excluded from participating in Medicaid, Medicare, or any other federal or Michigan health care programs.
- No criminal history that would preclude employment under federal and state laws and regulations in a federal or state health program.
- Must support a trauma informed culture of safety to aid customers in their recovery process.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of computer experience – Word, Excel and electronic medical record software preferred

A trauma-informed approach to service delivery emphasizes physical and emotional safety, choice, empowerment, and trustworthiness for customers. The impact of trauma is broad and touches many life domains. Participation is mandatory for activities required for Summit Pointe to become a “Trauma Informed System of Care.”
Physical Environment/Work Conditions:
- Professional office environment that generates noise from computer equipment/peripherals.
- Sometimes lifts, carries, or moves objectives up to 25 lbs.
- May be required to work variable hours/shifts.
- Qualify for and retain a Summit Pointe driving permit – with the potential for exposure to automobile accidents causing possible body damage.
- Possible exposure to health risks (including violence from customers and infectious diseases).
Work Detail
- Beginning pay range is $21.01 – $30.46 per hour depending on experience
