Senior IT Application Engineer

About Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Sr IT Application Engineer to join our team. The right candidate must have a deep and broad knowledge of computer software, hardware and networks. This person will be responsible for designing, organizing, modifying, and supporting our company’s systems.

The Sr IT Application Engineer will design and oversee corporate applications and network segments. Daily tasks may include installing, upgrading, and monitoring software and hardware. The Sr IT Application Engineer will maintain operating systems, business applications, security tools, web-servers, email, laptop, and desktop PCs as well as infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IAC). The main focus of this position is Atlassian Suite and interaction with Engineering and Operations teams.

We are looking for a passionate, motivated, self-starter to join our Operations team responsible for maintaining Sumo Logic core infrastructure. The right candidate has a strong software engineering and/or operations background with ability to implement operational best practices for a large-scale applications and empower developers across multiple teams to responsibly innovate and operate their code in production.  In this position you will work on systems that every part of the technology stack. You will be responsible for analysis of complex system behavior, performance and application issues. In this role you will also work on building out systems solutions from end to end, effectively creating the platform with your engineering teams. A strong desire to deeply understand system and application behavior is a must along with an insatiable desire to improve the reliability, scalability and performance of that environment. You are always working toward automating everything that you come across.

Responsibilities

• Work with implementation teams to own their development and production infrastructure and practices
• Collaborate with core platform teams on engineering, deployment, testing, and management procedures and systems
• Contribute to the design and implementation of a system to fully orchestrate the development, testing, verification and deployment of production code
• Drive internal teams to improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of the infrastructure through prompt resolution of problems and improved system design
• Use DevOps philosophy to collaborate with multiple engineering teams
• Mentor team members on devops practices
• Manage and maintain network servers
• Troubleshoot issues and outages
• Manage security updates and patches
• Make recommendations for future upgrades
• Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
• Work with service providers and vendors for procurement, installation, and troubleshooting as needed
• Configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services
• Perform network address assignment, assign routing protocols, and routing table configuration
• Maintain an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals, and IT policies
• Develop expertise to train staff on best practices and new technologies

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role
• Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms, macOS, Linux, Windows
• Knowledge of system security (e.g. endpoint security & intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
• Ability to create scripts in Bash, Python, Ruby, or other languages
• Source control experience, particularly git
• Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
• Excellent communication skills
• BSc/Ba in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline
