Description
Position Summary:
The Business Office Manager is responsible for the supervision of the Hospitals insurance verification and financial counseling area. Duties include guidance and coverage for employees, monitoring of Quality Assurance measures and oversight in ongoing staff training. The goal of this position is to ensure high quality service for patients and accuracy of information.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical / Technical Skills(40% of performance review)
Validates insurance information of patients for accuracy and completeness and resolves discrepancies as needed.
Verifies Medicare 72-hour rule is followed at time of admission/insurance verification
Monitors upfront collection log for usage, accuracy and collection efforts
Ensures single case agreements are obtained timely
Ensures patients that are underinsured and unfunded are connected to available resources
Responsible for adequate staffing and budget friendly
Responsible for staff development, including training, reviews of progress and communication of findings
Monitors all process generally and individual workers specifically to assure compliance with department policies and procedures
Monitors staff production
Quality Assurance
Offers guidance to employees related to Point-of-Service collective activity
Census Reconciliation
Effectively utilizes and understands the departmental computer system in order to realize its optimal potential and to be able to evaluate and answer staff member questions regarding the mechanics of the system.
Analyze patient data from admission through discharge to ensure all key elements that affect billing and collections are accurate.
Reviews and monitors self-pay account balances transferring them to /from early out collection vendor.

Qualifications
Education
Required: High school diploma or GED. Basic medical terminology. CPR and CPI certifications obtained in orientation.
Maintains education and development appropriate for position
May substitute education for experience
Experience
Required: Five (5) or more years of previous hospital experience in the business office/front end functions. Knowledge of insurance payor rules and regulations.
Preferred: Experience with HIPPA regulated environment, processing ICD-10 CPT/HCPCs, EOBs, third party payers, Medicare, managed care and private pay. Understanding of behavioral health treatment modalities. Working experience in HCS system a plus
