Assistant Daycare Teacher

Job Summary

We are seeking assistant classroom teachers to join our team. This is an immediate opportunity. We have openings in the 18 Mo-3 year old room and the 3-4 year old room/VPK floating assistant.

We are seeking a professional to be a teacher's assistant for our preschool. Someone who is reliable and flexible. We are seeking someone who has a passion for working with EarlyChildhood Education. Hours range from 7:30am-5pm. Prefer someone with the flexibility to come in earlier or stay later if needed.

Responsibilities and Duties

Be able to do the physical demands of the job which include lifting up to 40 pounds, sitting on the floor,kneeling, standing, moving quickly in response to emergencies.

Be able to do the emotional and mental demands of the job which include alertness, attending to children's crying or other strong emotions, answering questions and concerns from parents,and having flexibility and openness to new ideas.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with parents and other staff using a variety of media.

Work independently and as part of an effective whole team including teachers, Director and church staff.

Organize each day's activities to provide children with a variety of multi-sensory experiences and opportunities, both indoors and outdoors that allows them to develop curiosity,initiative, problem-solving skills and creativity in keeping with the school's curriculum philosophy.

Maintain an open, friendly,and cooperative relationship with each child and family, encouraging each child's family to be actively involved in the program.

Provide quality, nurturing care to children enrolled in the program; promote feelings of security and trust through positive, warm, enthusiastic interactions.

Respond quickly to distressed children in a soothing and tender manner. Respond consistently to children's needs for holding and comfort.

Sit with children and share family-style meals; model manners and good nutrition.

Tend immediately and appropriately to children's personal hygiene needs, remaining especially attentive to them during routines such as diaper changing, cleaning, feeding,and changing soiled or wet clothes.

Utilize disciplinary measures appropriately as outlined in the Good Shepherd Day School Discipline Policies and Procedures while respecting children's curiosity about each other and ensuring that children treat each other gently.

Complete timely, neat,accurate documentation as may be deemed necessary for providing quality services.

Maintain a safe, clean,environment; practice good personal hygiene and hand washing, and assure the well being and safety of all of the children in that environment; assure the supervision and physical safety of each child from arrival until departure.

Attend all training opportunities and staff meetings as provided and scheduled.

Perform any other tasks throughout the school/church deemed necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

• 
  High school diploma,completion of state mandated 40 clock hours within 90 days of employment,favorable law enforcement background screening and positive recommendation from previous employer.

  Pursuing education in EarlyChildhood Education or related field
• 
  Knowledge of NAEYCdevelopmentally practices and the Reggio Emilia/ Project Approach curriculum is highly desired.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $15.00/hr
