POSITION OVERVIEW
The Festival Manager, Safety and Security is charged with developing and implementing effective strategies to mitigate workplace safety concerns and security risks and to ensure compliance with policies and practices across Sundance Institute.
Working closely under the Director, Production & Operations, the Festival Manager develops the Institute’s formal safety program and emergency operations plan, including a written plan that is routinely updated to meet evolving Institutional needs.
This temporary position works full time from Wednesday, September 4, 2024 through Friday, March 7, 2025 and will be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends to meet key deadlines and respond to on-call needs. This position must be based within a commutable distance to our Park City, UT office in order to work onsite in a hybrid capacity throughout its employment. There will be ample opportunity for remote work leading up to the Festival in January.

In collaboration with key stakeholders, developing, implementing, and overseeing the Institute’s safety and security management strategy, including the formal safety program and emergency operations plan to ensure operational continuity and the safety and security of all Festival attendees and films.
Developing and facilitating robust training on various safety and security related operational procedures for internal staff and external vendors, and fielding questions as needed.
Managing employees, including selecting and training highly effective individuals, delegating appropriate and meaningful work while providing direction, feedback, and support to ensure employees understand responsibilities and are effective in their roles.
Managing relationships with external safety and security partners, including conducting outreach in order to cultivate, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with local and federal organizations, including the National Advisory Committee (NAC), local law enforcement, and fire agencies in multiple jurisdictions.
Partnering and engaging with the Institute’s accessibility team on relevant incident reports.
Overseeing department expenses against allocated budget, working with budget managers to sign off on all invoices and ensure payments are processed in a timely manner.
Serving as the Institute’s representative with external security teams, including Park City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), vendors, and state and federal agencies, to address their concerns, implement protocols, and facilitate training on our internal protocols.
Maintaining accurate and current security risk policy documents to flag communications, analyze and assess risk, lead and direct necessary responses, and work to address potential gaps.
Overseeing all documentation regarding safety and security investigations through resolution are completed and final, collaborating with Finance, Legal, and Operations as appropriate.
Collaborating with internal and external teams to update and develop safety and security strategies (e.g. evacuation and emergency management procedures) for all high profile films and events, including those with sensitive or politically-charged content.
Partnering with artist security teams to facilitate specific security needs and identify opportunities for integration with Sundance’s safety and security protocols.
Managing venue security teams and overseeing all safety and security activations throughout the Festival, along with communications related to Incident Command leading up to, during, and post-Festival.
Collaborating with constituents on digital security needs for in-person films, such as piracy prevention, and location-specific mitigations such as barrier placements.
De-escalating parties involved in safety and security matters promptly.
You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass MVR authorization check.
Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible risk management experience.
Capacity to effectively address and manage safety and security issues affecting all constituents.
Strong leadership skills.
Ability to facilitate the resolution of complex problems impacting people and programs.
Skilled in verbal and written communication.
Ability to operate independently where appropriate, and understand when to escalate issues.
Strong consultation, presentation, meeting design, and facilitation skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Skilled in project management including the ability to manage and prioritize the resources and tasks required to support simultaneous deliverables and delivery dates.
Legal authorization to work in the United States.
