Job Title: SPA MANAGER
Department: The Spa at Sundance
Reports To: Director of Retail & Spa
Rate of Pay: $45-$50K
Shift: Generally 5 days per week or as business levels apply
Weekends, holidays and special events are required based on business needs.
SUMMARY
Create, support, and promote the image, service, and standards of The Spa at Sundance. Responsible for all operations and functions of the Spa including the Wellness Program and associated classes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide leadership presence actively managing the spa concierge desk 4 days/week.
Establish spa operating procedures including training manuals, SOP's, guest standards, training plans, and spa staffing.
Run day to day operations including opening and closing procedures, guest services, yielding appointments, etc.
Analyze staffing and professional inventory daily, basing par levels on revenue achievement, guest utilization, and monthly forecast.
Develop and continually review objectives, services, standards, menus, cost, staffing, and training.
Actively participate in spa relevant marketing strategies and promotional activities.
Develop and manage all spa collateral materials in conjunction with Marketing and Director of Retail & Spa.
Share creative ideas and think proactively.
Develop and manage the Wellness Program, including all associated classes such as Yoga, Fitness, Meditation, etc.
Develop and manage annual Wellness Retreats in shoulder seasons to promote the concept of wellness.
Oversee the Resort Fitness Center.
Develop and manage spa budgets.
Run, load, and generate reports in SpaSoft including commission structure, treatments, sales, guest relation's comments, email capture, and department payroll.
Attend Lead Ops and Spa Operations meetings.
Ensure that Sundance remains in compliance with Utah State laws and regulations.
Maintain safety compliance in Spa area.
Manage Spa schedule, optimizing scheduling, and refining booking process.
Book groups for use of spa in regards to staffing and space.
Ensure that established service standards are continually achieved.
Hire all treatment staff and provide timely performance reviews.
Coordinate new hire training with Lead Therapist.
Assure objective measurement standards by which to evaluate performance. Organize and conduct continued education training for spa staff.
Remain actively involved in staff training and regular retraining, especially in emergency procedures.
Train staff to support the recycling program and share the Sundance story of environmental commitment.
Empower and create retail sales incentives for all team members.
Inspire creativity and a team spirit amongst the staff.
Promote a positive and healthy working environment in accordance with the Sundance Vision and Values.
Ensure that spa staff has all supplies needed to accomplish service objectives, including but not limited to linen, terry, all treatment related products and supplies, food and beverage, etc.
Directly manage inventory control, ordering, merchandising, etc.
Control all professional product inventories and ensure adequate par levels are maintained at all times. This includes ordering, receiving, storage, regular inventories, and security.
Ensure that all spa equipment operates at optimum performance.
Supervise and authorize general spa maintenance and repairs.
Hold cleanliness, recycling, and maintenance to the highest standards.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
Support and participate in environmental programs associated with position: minimizing waste, recycling, energy conservation, purchase and use of sustainable products, education on environmental ethic, support vendors with similar ethic, decrease pollution levels, minimize the use of toxic chemicals, restore wild life habitats, and carpool with co-workers to minimize carbon emissions. All employees are invited to participate in environmental or Sundance Preserve sponsored events.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises approximately 20 part time year round employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, scheduling and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Complete all applicable paperwork for the above responsibilities and submit to HR in a timely manner.
DRESS CODE
Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele. As representatives of Sundance and leaders of our teams, managers are expected to set the example for all employees.
In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, managers and supervisors are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard.
All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.
Operational managers are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.
Clothing must be unwrinkled and clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).
Blue jeans are permitted.
Men's shirts must be tucked in with the exception of men's dress shirts which have a straight, finished hem (no tails).
Appropriate skirt length is from mid-thigh to ankle.
A tailored fit is required of all clothing.
Tank tops, halter tops tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.
Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females. Straps must be 3 fingers wide.
Bare midriffs are prohibited.
Proper footwear for your department is required.
Dress sandals are permitted for females.
Flip flops are prohibited in all areas.
Tennis shoes are prohibited unless there is a business need (i.e.: Mtn. Ops.)
Fashion sneakers are allowed within the following parameters: earth tone colors, no rubber on the upper, sleek design, and minimal contrast between sole and upper colors (i.e. no black shoes with white soles).
If your department allows t-shirts, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.
If your department allows baseball caps, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.
Managers working in Retail outlets may wear t-shirts and caps that are sold in their area.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; minimum of two years' experience in spa or wellness leadership role; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Superior customer service skills. Must have up to date knowledge of spa industry trends and standards.
TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS
Must possess a proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, internet navigation and electronic mail. Proficiency in SMS preferred but not required.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be nationally and state certified as a Licensed Massage Therapist and Esthetician to perform treatments on guests.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
