Overview

Sunflower Neonatology Associates (SNA) is a diverse private practice neonatology group founded in 2004 that provides family centered, evidenced, based medical care for ill and premature infants. Our neonatal nurse practitioners provide in house coverage of neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for four local HCA Midwest hospitals in the Greater Kansas City region as well as Providence Medical Center. Due to the multiple contracts SNA has secured, associates are provided the opportunity to work at multiple locations.   

 

This Medical Billing Specialist is a full-time position, primarily responsible for claims submission, follow-up on claims and data entry of basic demographic and insurance information.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Processes insurance claims, billing, and denials.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility.
  • Collects and prepares patient billing records for data entry. Enters new patient demographics, updates medical record systems.
  • Develops knowledge of different types of insurance carriers and networks, familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Supports other office specialists and cross-trains where appropriate.
  • Performs other general office duties as assigned.

Education

High School degree required; some college preferred.

 

Experience

  • Experience with medical billing (claims submission and follow-up) is required.
  • Three years of experience in a medical office or healthcare facility is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance carriers, and networks.

Skills

  • Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to read and interpret complex documents, forms, and notes. High level of focus and attention to detail.
  • Able to work effectively with a team. Excellent organizational skills: ability to multitask, set own priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel; Familiarity with web-based systems and data processing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to demonstrate compassion and patience in dealing with others. Able to work with a variety of individuals and personalities, patient families, insurance companies and co-workers.
  • Strong customer services skills and a high level of professionalism.
  • Follows and maintains patient, account and client confidentiality at all times. Adheres to HIPAA Policy Guidelines.

  • While at work, this position is primarily a sedentary job and requires that the associate can work in an environment where they will primarily be seated for most of the workday.
  • This role requires that one can sit and regularly type on a keyboard for the majority of their workday.
  • This position requires the ability to observe a computer screen for long periods of time to observe their own and others’ work, as well as in-coming and out-going communications via the computer and/or mobile devices.
  • This role requires the ability to listen and speak clearly to customers and other associates.
