We offer a competitive pay of $17-$20 an hour, based on experience. Our technicians do not just make house calls. They use their expertise to develop customer solutions to complex plumbing and drain problems.
The drain technician provides diagnostics of stoppage issues, cleans the drain line with drain cleaning equipment, then will camera the drain line to provide proof of job completion, or if further work is needed to communicate that with the owner or manager of the property and set lead for supervisor.
The drain technician is responsible for establishing new client relationships and creating an experience that keeps the client coming back in the future. The drain technician earns positive online reviews and promotes his team to prospective customers and employees. The drain technician works under the direction of the Service Manager and welcomes coaching to develop customer service and technical skills. The drain technician will also learn to diagnose and repair minor plumbing issues and guide customers to be informed and confident regarding their buying decisions. This is part of what delivering WOW service is. Sunkel Plumbing has been in business for over 50 years in McLean County. We are a family business, focused on residential service.
Job Duties:
- Act with dignity, respect, and professionalism in dealing with our customers and fellow employees.
- Respond to service requests, establish a customer connection, and earn and develop trust.
- Measures distance from sewer opening to sewer main and estimates length of sewer before feeding cable into sewer.
- Removes roots, debris, and other refuse from clogged sewer lines and drains, using portable electric sewer cleaning machine, and repairs breaks in underground piping: Positions or disassembles sewer trap machine at sewer or drain outlet.
- Removes drain cover, using wrench.
- Installs rotary knives on flexible cable, mounted on reel of machine, according to diameter of pipe to be cleaned.
- Starts machine to feed revolving cable into opening, stopping machine and changing knives as necessary to conform to diameter or contour of pipe. Withdraws cable to deposit accumulated residue removed from pipe in containers for disposal.
- Observes residue for evidence of mud, indicating broken sewer line.
- Performs camera of sewer line to verify job completion or if other work is needed.
- Replaces dull cutting blades and performs repairs on machines, using hand tools.
- Maintain a clean, organized job site, including the service van and its inventory.
- Maintain other equipment and tools and ensure proper working order of company property.

Job Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED.
- 2 years of residential drain cleaning experience.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- To be professional, well groomed, friendly, and personable, and enjoy making our customers smile.
- High attention to detail, highly organized, and have exceptional follow-through abilities.
- Be of the utmost integrity.
- Clean criminal background.
- Strong desire and motivation to succeed and open to coaching.
