Job Title: Activity Coordinator

Summary:

An Activity Coordinator at Sunny Glen Children’s Home designs and develops the recreational program for children in the care of DFPS custody. The recreation program must consist of leisure and acculturation activities for the children. The Activity Coordinator will develop a monthly calendar of activities and program all outings. Additionally, the Activity Coordinator will implement, and supervise the children and daily leisure of the recreational activities provided at the campus.

Essential Functions

Learn and abide by Sunny Glen Children's Home policies and procedures.

Learn and stay within Minimum Standards.

Work independently and as a team.

Maintain appropriate boundaries.

Supervise children in DFPS custody.

Uphold policies and requirements. Integrate the common core government guidelines into each recreational activity.

Create benchmarks for program success and track progress towards those goals.

Develop recreational programs that result in student and organizational success.

Develop a monthly calendar of activities for the children.

Respond immediately to concerns from students, school administrators or facility managers.

Attend trainings and meetings, as scheduled.
Possess sensitivity to the residents' cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
Uses strong organizational skills.

Must follow daily schedule.

Assume responsibility for safe transportation.

Oversee youth's homework, chores, hygiene, and other activities of daily living.

Be a positive role model for residents.

Set appropriate behavioral limits.

Utilize positive child management techniques.

Assist youth in shaping their behavior.

Charting progress and incidents in KaleidaCare.

Job Qualifications:

Education: a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is preferred. High School Diploma or GED required. Two or more years of experience working with children is required. One year of event/recreational planning preferred.

Licensure: Licensure is not required, but P.E. or other recreation certifications are preferred.

Skills: Ability to design, develop, and implement an effective recreation program that provides children with opportunities for leisure, educational enrichment, and acculturation. Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Transportation: Must have reliable transportation.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Texas Driver's License with an excellent driving record.

Must have a clean driving record for the past 3 years.

CPR/First Aid, 15 passenger van, Handle with Care, Sanctuary, TBRI, KaleidaCare, Paycom, and other DFPS mandated training (trainings offered on the job.)

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Strong communication skills, important. Bilingual is preferred (English/Spanish).

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
