Job Title: Kitchen Assistant II

Job Summary
The Kitchen Assistant II works in cooperation with the nutrition team to provide nutritious meals and snacks for children participating in the day program in a manner that complies with the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program and health department standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform daily activities that involve delivery and clean-up of nutritious meals for all students.
2. Prepare milk to be served each day using the established calculation process, including special dietary milk for students who have restricted diets.
3. Complete required logs and records for Kitchen Supervisor’s daily production reports.
4. Assist Kitchen Assistant I with food preparation and serving.
5. Responsible for food receiving and storage as assigned.
6. Observe the practice of strong attention to details.
7. Procure supplies from storage room, freezer, or refrigerator and deliver to designated work area.
8. Prepare food for storage by labeling and dating.
9. Perform cleaning tasks as scheduled daily, weekly, monthly.
10. Monitor and chart refrigerator temperature to ensure proper storage conditions.
11. Be familiar with special dietary needs in each classroom.
12. Become proficient in the principles and practices of the CACFP program guidelines.
13. Work as a cooperative member of the nutrition team, contributing to the success of the department and promoting positive interactions with team members, students, parents, and funding agency personnel.
14. Observe the practice of strong attention to details.
15. Maintain established standards of sanitation, safety and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments.
16. Meet the established clothing and hygiene guidelines relating to –
a. Footwear
b. Head/hair coverings
c. Hands/fingernails
d. Extra items in the food preparation area
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Participate in grantee monitoring visits.
2. Perform functions of other nutritional services positions, as requested by supervisor for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage within food and nutrition services operations.
3. Ensure every work area is well-stocked to allow for expedient and efficient operation.
4. Inventory food, condiments, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of items required for meeting projected menu requirements.
5. Maintain cleanliness in both the kitchen and storage areas.
6. Clean utensils, equipment, and storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining required sanitary conditions.
7. Perform janitorial duties such as cleaning workstations, emptying the trash, mopping up spills during your shift, when needed.
8. Through training, become proficient in the daily production record, the ordering process, and inventory.
9. Check equipment to make sure it meets safety and sanitation requirements and report needed repairs to Kitchen Supervisor.
10. Participate in nutrition education activities, grantee-sponsored trainings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
11. Participate in general staff meetings and other agency meetings as required.
12. Participate in all emergency drills and environmental safety activities.
13. Other duties as assigned that support the mission of Sunshine School.

Qualifications:
1. The equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that meets the minimum requirements will be accepted.
2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
3. Ability to understand and follow multi-step written and oral instructions.
4. Essential physical requirements to perform the duties of this position include: Regularly required to talk or hear and communicate detailed information accurately and effectively to varied individuals/groups. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch. The employee must often lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
5. Background clearance from the Arkansas State Police and Central Registries for Adult and Child Maltreatment and Abuse.
6. Meet the agency’s requirements for drug screening.
Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:45- 12:45 or 8:30-1:30 This position’s work requirements are based on the annual, in-center staff calendar. Occasional additional days/hours may be necessary to meet the needs of the agency.
