SUNY Delhi seeks a Payroll Examiner 1 with strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize, and experience meeting numerous regular deadlines to join the Office of Human Resources. Under the supervision of the Payroll Examiner 2, the Payroll Examiner 1 will process administrative and student payrolls for approximately 550 employees, as well as over 350 Federal Workstudy and students assistants. The preparation of these payrolls require compliance with detailed procedures, the use of multiple computer software programs (NYSTEP, SUNY-HR, PaySrv, Banner, etc), and adherence to strict deadlines. Payroll Examiners develop internal business processes, internal control procedures, and staff development materials to ensure the preparation of accurate and timely payroll submissions to control agencies.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Data enter and audit payrolls, time and attendance system entries, and reports
- Must be able to perform and verify salary payroll calculations
- Interpret and apply policies, rules and regulations issued by the Office of the State Comptroller, the Department of Civil Service, and the Division of the Budget; multiple negotiated agreements between NYS and the employee unions; and the State Finance Law governing salaries, lump sum payments, deductions, leave credits, and other factors which affect employee payrolls.
- Review transactions to determine appropriateness and accuracy of position information, personal, and job data; and independently resolve any discrepancies with appropriate parties prior to transaction submission.
- Produce, review and/or reconcile information in standard, special queries, and reports that relate to the production of an accurate and timely payroll; check for errors and possible overpayments; and make appropriate corrections.
Job Requirements:
- The successful candidate must be reachable for appointment on a present, permanent Civil Service eligible list for Payroll Examiner 1, or currently or previously held the Title of Payroll Examiner 1.
