Job Description:

The Department of Mathematics and Computer and Information Science at the State University of New York at Old Westbury is seeking applications for a Lecturer in Computer and Information Science (CIS) to begin in Spring 2024. Candidates must be willing to teach a broad range of courses in Computer Science at the undergraduate level and possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The candidate should demonstrate competencies in in Java, C and other computer science domains, and be willing to learn new disciplines in computer science. In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in service activities including, but not limited to, serve as department IT liaison, advising students, committee responsibilities, program assessment and curriculum development. This is a 1-year, temporary appointment.

Salary Range: $44,178 - $70,000 commensurate with experience and education

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or related field,
  • Demonstrated competencies in Computer Science, specifically Java, and C ,
  • Teaching experience in Computer Science, and
  • A commitment to teaching/mentoring diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or tutoring a culturally and economically diverse student population, and
  • A successful record of collaborative work and/or supervisory work.
