Student Assistant - IMT SWAT Team IT Specialist

Job Summary:

The SWAT team model is a new initiative for Upstate Medical University's Information Management & Technology (IMT) department that will serve as a dedicated group of students working on a large-scale or interdepartmental projects underneath the supervision of the IMT SWAT Manager. The goal of IMT's SWAT teams is to provide students the opportunity to put their academic experiences into practice in a professional setting that reflects the post-graduate workplace. Our student assistant positions offer experiential learning initiatives and a range of transferable skills, as well as a competitive recruitment and retention process that models the professional environment. - Expectations: Project team members must attend meetings of the team, as well as meetings with the project client when team members are expected. We expect project team members to prioritize project work as second only to class work or military duties. - Time Commitment: We expect a minimum of 5-10 hours per week from SWAT project team members. This means, on average, one or two hours per day. Students are limited to 29 hours per week. Students are expected to fulfill this commitment, though hours can be concentrated during a particular part of the week to avoid conflict with class work. - Teamwork: With supervision from a dedicated IMT Team Manager, project teams will largely self-manage assigned projects to completion. We expect students to be dedicated to the project at hand as well as to their fellow teammates. Weekly status meetings with the IMT Team Manager will occur to ensure project progression is tracking and provide the opportunity for the team to raise issues/questions. The IMT Team Manager will be fully engaged in responding to questions/concerns as they come up outside of dedicated meeting times. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in a college or university.
