What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Dynamic Systems Analyst position at Supernal?
Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. We fuse research in autonomy, robotics, aviation and services to define a new category of mobility for the world’s communities. We believe in creative thinking and collaboration to help build a better mobility experience for everyone, improving people’s ability to move – whether for work or play.
What we do:
The Powertrain organization of Supernal is engaged in the development of innovative new propulsion solutions for next generation aircraft. The Dynamic Systems team is responsible for design, integration, qualification, and certification of the gearboxes, propellers, rotors and associated systems. The candidate will work closely with Flight Technology, Airframe, Assembly & Integration, Vehicle Management System, Flight Controls, and System Safety teams to ensure the dynamic systems are optimally crafted to provide a safe and reliable means to propel our next gen aircraft.
What you can do:
Genesis Air Mobility is looking for a Dynamic Systems Analyst with experience in ANSYS and/or NASTRAN/PATRAN for analysis of eVTOL rotor and drive systems. This position will work with the Head of Dynamic Systems and may support related special projects outside this scope to meet company objectives as required.
Your experience from the automotive industry or aerospace sectors is a perfect launching point for this role. Precision rotating machinery is your thing. You know high performance machines inside an out - whether you tinker with your own airplane or you're a committed NASCAR fan, you get it. You know how to push a machine to groundbreaking high performance. Be a part of the pioneering team who will drive the vision of crafting the first eVTOL that just a few years ago wasn't even a possibility. Through our inhouse resources and collaboration partners you will be building it. When you look up and see the prototype fly over, you will see how you enabled the next generation of mobility.
What you can contribute:
- The Dynamic Systems Analyst is engaged in the analysis of complex mechanical components including eVTOL rotor/propeller/proprotor hubs and blades, gears, housings, bearings, clutches, shafts and the associated cooling and lubrication systems
- Perform FEA at the detail and assembly level using appropriate analytical tools
- Support the validation of these components in support of flight test and civil certification
- Interpret technical data while supporting drive system component, assembly and sub-system tests
- Conduct heat transfer and fluid flow analysis of drive system cooling systems
- Conduct lubrication system analysis and generate the associated specifications for pumps, jets and lube lines
- Perform diverse and sophisticated product development by applying engineering principles and developing new or unique stress analysis tools/methods as required
- Investigate and compare design factors such as materials, performance, weight and stiffness & strength requirements
- Analysis of damage limits and tolerances for various structural components
- Complete the applicable reports and develop analysis packages for review and release
- Good oral and written communication skills
- BS/MS in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, Math or related science degree required
- Proven track record in Mechanical Engineering Analysis in the aerospace or automotive design space, focused on mechanical components such as gears, bearings, clutches, shafting, cooling and lubrication
- Utilization of CATIA V6/ENOVIA/NASTRAN/PATRAN/ANSYS/Matlab and familiarity with bearing design/analysis as well as the AGMA standards
- Proficiency with engineering design definition including 3D modeling, requirement capture, and specification development
- A proven understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
You may also be able to contribute:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
- Extensive experience working on helicopter rotor and drive systems
- Prior background with dynamic system tests
- Prior background knowledge of electric and hybrid powertrain systems
