SUU PREP Program Instructor Position Description
SUU PREP is an academically intense, mathematics-based, summer enrichment program, designed to develop abstract reasoning and problem solving skills. SUU PREP identifies achieving middle school students with the potential to become scientists or engineers, and reinforces them in pursuit of these fields. The program is presented over the course of three summers. SUU PREP expects to serve approximately 75 students this summer. It will operate Monday-Friday June 3-21 and July 8-26. The program will include coursework, team projects, class presentations, field trips, special events and examinations.

The individual selected for this position will serve as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. This is a wonderful opportunity to add service and hands-on teaching experience to your resume! AmeriCorps members sign an agreement to complete a term of service. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 300 service hours throughout your term.
Compensation:
This position will provide a living allowance of $4,200 paid over the term of service. The $4,200 stipend will be split up and paid on a bi-weekly basis (every other week) basis during your term of service. NOTE: You will not be paid hourly.
In addition, an Education Award of $1,459.26 will be awarded upon successful completion. The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit received by individuals who complete terms of national service in approved AmeriCorps programs. This award (similar to a Pell Grant) can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, be a United States citizen or permanent resident, and meet the requirements set by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Individuals selected for these positions must pass a background check.
Span of Authority / Control
Functions independently in order to accomplish assigned projects. Refers unusual problems to the supervisor.
