What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Life Pastor position at SVA Church?
SVA Church is seeking an experienced, passionate, and strategic leader to serve as the Family Life Pastor who will expand ministry strategies that help parents and families in every life stage. This is a combination role that oversees and leads all ministries and staff in the areas of children’s (nursery, preschool, elementary), youth (middle-high school), young adults, equipping parents, and marriage ministry. Not only would this Pastor offer shepherding, support, and vision for these ministry areas — both hands on and by overseeing other staff — they would have a great presence in our community and preach occasionally.
As an intergenerational church in a growing suburb of Western Washington, a motived and seasoned Family Life Pastor is essential to serve and reach this community well. Our mission at SVA Church is to make known the redeeming, renewing, and reconciling love of Jesus — a mission that the Family Life Pastor will play an integral role in advancing.
Essential Functions:
Oversight of Family Ministries: Nursery/Preschool, Elementary, Youth, Young Adults
- Offer vision, leadership, and alignment support to all family ministries while ensuring goals advance the greater vision of SVA Church
- Become an expert in each of the family ministry areas to support hands-on and step into any area as needed or upon vacancies of other staff
- Directly supervise and manage all staff and volunteer leads across different family ministries of the church (Check-in’s, emergency support, recruitment and training of volunteers, advancement, management of volunteer handbooks, etc.)
- Oversee and manage all safety and security policies and procedures across family ministries to ensure safe, healthy, and appropriate measures are being taken at all times
Equipping Parents
- In partnership with other family ministry staff members, offer ongoing support and equipping of parents in all life stages. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Recognizing parents as the primary disciplers of their children, creatively come alongside them to equip them for that call on their life
- Ensuring up-to-date, useful, and accessible resources are available for parents that align with current ministry topics, series, and conversations
- Meeting with and counseling parents who are facing challenges and need support
- Hosting multiple events/workshops a year to offer training and support to parents on relevant topics they and their families are facing
- Assist other family ministry staff in navigating complex conversations and topics with parents of children in their ministries
Marriage Ministry
- Directly oversee, manage, and plan all efforts in support of couples across multiple stages of relationship. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Meeting directly with couples for Pastoral Counseling, care, and guidance
- Develop a process and team for pre-marital counseling and care
- Equip our church with ongoing resources, topics, and encouragements for relationships
- Support the Lead Pastor in preaching on marriages/relationships annually
- Develop, plan, and run annual workshops and/or seminars for couples and spouses
Staff Team Partnership & Communication
- Weekly staff meeting
- Monthly Pastoral Team meeting
- Monthly check-ins with each staff lead in Family Life Ministries
- As needed, support the Lead Pastor with preaching and teaching duties
- Remain in constant communication with Lead Pastor and Executive Team
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A mature, healthy, and always growing relationship with Jesus, heart for the local church, and a passion to see individuals and families in the Snoqualmie Valley be transformed by the Gospel
- A seasoned and experienced Pastor who has 7 years of direct ministry experience with families (children, youth, young adult, or marriages)
- A Pastor who has experience overseeing staff and/or volunteers
- A Pastor who has 3 years of experience with preaching
- A willingness & desire to innovate, think differently, and encourage a team to pursue and launch ministry efforts that reach the present changing culture
- Proven track record of organizational skills in developing and carrying out objectives to completion
- BA in Ministry, Theology, Biblical Studies, Christian Ministry, or related field (MA Preferred)
- Preferred — Experience with professional or lay counseling of parents / marriages
- Preferred — Licensed /Ordained C&MA worker or accreditation from equitable denomination (If not upon applying, opportunity for preparation and advancement in this area)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
