POSITION: ADVOCATE
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time ? Non-Exempt
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Rehabilitation
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Volunteers
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
- To advocate in furthering self-determination principles, person-centered planning and ensuring people with disabilities are afforded their rights under the law.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, organize and supervise monthly social recreational activities.
- Recruits, screen, orient, train, monitor and place potential volunteers. Recruitment will be done through public appearances at church, schools, news articles, radio, and television announcements etc.
- Be active and visible within the school districts and community mental health centers to inform consumers and teachers of our services and programs that are available to them.
- Work with community groups and individuals to promote the acceptance and integration of individuals diagnosed with disabilities.
- Provide services including intakes, information and referral, and direct assistance and advocacy to clients and families.
- Attend Individual Education Planning and Person-Centered Planning meetings as requested by consumers and family members.
- Exhibit high levels of standards in performance, conduct and agency interaction.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with ad hoc committees of the organization.
- Fulfill requirements for the documentation of services, as necessary.
- All other duties that may be requested for special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Posses the desire to assist others.
