We are actively seeking resumes for qualified individuals for a Natural Resources Technician to join our growing North Carolina office. This is an hourly/on-call position that will perform biological field surveys, assist with data collection and data entry, and report writing for a variety of natural resources projects on an on-call or as-needed basis. The selected individual will be part of the Raleigh and Charlotte Natural Resources team supporting various projects in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and across the Central-East Region. We work to support our client’s needs across multiple service areas including renewable generation, transportation, site development, and ecological restoration. The position requires the ability to work long hours in harsh conditions and be on the road for several days at a time.
What you will accomplish
- Assist crew leaders with a variety of natural resources field studies including wetland delineations, stream assessments, water quality sampling, vegetation and rare plant surveys, avian and wildlife surveys, aquatics surveys, and wildlife habitat assessments.
- Record data on GPS units and field site forms or other forms.
- Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools to determine exact locations of project areas, habitat types, and associated landforms.
- Photograph and record appropriate habitat, species, and landforms.
- Operate SWCA vehicles. Ability to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads.
- Assist project managers in data organization, interpretation, and report preparation as needed.
Experience and qualifications for success
- Minimum of two (2) years of advanced study in biology, ecology, natural resource management, or related field.
- Willingness to learn and follow company procedures.
- Knowledge of southeastern flora and fauna preferred.
- Experience with water quality monitoring and sampling preferred.
- Experience with wetland delineations preferred.
